Heroin/Meth - 10% on average (lowest: 0% at BYU; highest: 20% at U Missouri and Thomas Jefferson)

Narcotics - 40% on average (lowest: 1% at BYU; highest: 55% at Arizona State, USC, BU, and Washington & Lee)

Stimulants - 98% on average (lowest: 0% at U Maine and Stetson; highest: 100% at Baylor, BYU, and Hastings)

Word on the street is that these statistics will be included in the US News rankings algorithm for 2016 which means BYU will likely move into the Top 20.
Were they counting caffeine as stimulant of choice at BYU? With everyone hyped up on caffeine an no partying at the school, I bet everybody is just studying all the time. Don't know if it's as competitive/cutthroat as Baylor, but maybe...

I mean - does anyone actually know of people that take shit beyond caffeine for "performance" in law school? It's not like most people cram for an exam the night before. Or is my head just in the sand?

The quotation marks make this seem like you're talking about Viagra.

Using adderall and shit without having an actual medical need for it is a sign of weakness in my mind. I personally don't know anyone in my section that uses it w/o a medical reason behind it. I know of more pple at TTTT schools that use it as "study aids", interestingly.

Adderall has an adverse effect on me. I stay up for 40+ hours and can't study for shit. For some people, it's an easy way out, IMO. If you can't do it w/o drugs, then.... yeah.. nuff said.

This. While there are certainly people with legitimate need for ADHD medication, it isn't terribly hard to find doctors who will just write prescriptions. I know numerous people who all were doing well in school and just decided they wanted a prescription. They searched around for doctors that didn't really care and wouldn't flinch at writing a prescription for a 19-21 year old with no history of academic struggles or attention disorders. Within weeks they had prescriptions. But I know this is how they got prescribed because we are good friends, I can't imagine they go around telling all their classmates and acquaintances anything other than "I have ADD, and am prescribed adderall."

I definitely agree that if you have to absolutely rely on something like adderall when you really don't need it for medical reasons, then you're probably setting yourself up for an eventual problem. But I don't agree with looking down on other's and trying to be above people, regardless if they study with no stimulants, caffeine, adderall, or with meth. Live your own damn life and realize other people will always be trying to gain "unfair" advantages and/or trying to take short cuts.

Likewise. I have a genuine prescription for it, but have serious side effects. When I tried it I wound up staring sadly at yogurt until it wore off. Really wish anything helped without doing that, but never had any luck.

Yeah, it was that Yoplait strawberry with fruit in the bottom. Seriously disappointing regardless of medication status.

The only person I've met in my law school class (~110 people) who doesn't abuse some kind of legal or illegal drug is a Mormon who was gunning for JAG. Even I use a bunch of alcohol and the occasional cigarette.

ETA: and I cannot live without coffee.

I've seen some of my law school friends copping addys from each other. I didn't understand why they didn't just get a prescription and use it when necessary. Getting a prescription of adderall is child's play.

yeah, numbers wise i know of at least a third of my class that use it for non-med reasons.

pot is similarly widespread, but closer to a quarter of the class.
