Like every other goddamn thread on this stupid topic.

:?:

It doesn't matter which one you get, this has been asked a shitton of times, and these stupid threads all turn out exactly the same. There is one around here that is almost 60 pages (or more) worth of this exact goddamn thread.

It utterly, completely, and totally doesn't matter which one you get. Neither is better than the other, just different.

um, except to the extent that you prefer one over the other, which might turn out to be quite a lot, judging by the responses in this thread?

Which is essentially what I said. OP asked which one is better for school, neither one is better. These threads are dumb.

Haha! I love the random weirdos who recommend Linux part, didn't want to say anything when I read that, but I have yet to see anybody in any of my classes on anything but MSFT or AAPL and yeah I just referred to them by their tickers, what.

If you're at a school that uses a program like Examsoft, it has to be a PC or Mac.

I absolutely hated Windows 8 when I first got it. You can download a simple program called Classic Shell that will change the appearance of the desktop to fit your tastes. Now I dual boot Windows 8 on all of my machines. It might seem like I'm pushing for Windows, but I'm trying to give you the information to make an informed, intelligent decision.

That sorority chick was a crackhead  When I first started using Linux, I didn't like it. Once I got into engineering courses that only used it, I started seeing its applications for networking/circuit simulation, but for the common user, Linux probably poses more issues than benefits.

Buy a quality computer. Choose the operating system you prefer. Don't buy a cheap PC or you'll regret it. More money spent now might save you money over the years (when you don't have to keep replacing it)

This topic is so dumb it kills me.

Law school requires about as much computing power as a calculator watch. You need Microsoft word and the internet. You might need PowerPoint if you're a gunner. That's it. Seriously.

If your computer can run Word and can connect to the inter webs, you're all set for law school.

Just avoid the truly bottom of the barrel, and there is really no significantly difference in reliability.

A 600 dollar Asus will be just as reliable as the 1600 dollar Sony or Apple.

Low end Apple's aren't a huge rip off for their specs, but they are over kill.

I'd recommend this. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6834231146

It'll easily handle all that law student needs.

But if you wanna go super thin, Mac Book Air isn't terrible. But I think a Yoga2 is better.

Does Mac come with the equivalent of a word processor, or do I need to buy it?

As I understand it Apple's word processor, Pages, is available as a free download for people who have recently purchased a new Mac. But there are many others to choose from including a version Microsoft Word.

What about things like Powerpoint and Excel? I'd like to avoid having to pay for MS Office, and if Apple can provide with decent free alternatives, I would likely go for that since they seem pretty reliable. Never had an Apple before, and my current MS Office is not um... able to be registered.

Some law schools will hook you up with MS office for free. Otherwise just be a man and torrent it, brah.

New systems also get free downloads of Numbers (spreadsheet application) and Keynote (presentation application). If you need specific features of MS Office, you may need to purchase it, but for many users, these tools will prove to be sufficent. If you do feel the need to purchase office, and you are an active student, be sure to check with your school as it is not uncommon for schools to have deals with Microsoft allowing for step discounts, I seem to recall when I was in grad school I had the option of buying MS Office for ~$25.

Yea, I never needed to buy MS Office before, so I just thought that I would have to get those MS offered student discounts, which are nice, but are still over 100 bucks. If I can get them at that low of a discount via the school, I may just go for a Windows.

Full office is only 79.99 for students right now I think, and includes 2 licenses.
