I would be above average at Yale. That makes me feel better. Not by much though.

the GPA mean from your college is ONLY for law school applicants from your school, not the total undergraduate student body, correct? Also, how many years are included in the data?

Coming from an engineering school the 3.25 GPA actually seems sorta high...Though I guess it's balanced out by being a private school.

Yeah, law schools get that report, along with your LSAT band, your GPA %tile, etc.ilovemulch wrote:the GPA mean from your college is ONLY for law school applicants from your school, not the total undergraduate student body, correct? Also, how many years are included in the data?

Unless it is only an engineering school I;d assume most LS applicants are not engineers?starrydreamz3 wrote:157

Re: what are your "college means" for GPA and LSAT?
I really hate how this data is even reported. The fact that LSAC is meshing up my BS in Economics with engineering degrees that average around 3 and liberal arts degrees that average around the upper 3.7/8 range... well, it's just stupid. Every college and degree is going to have remarkably different avg's (unless your just a liberal arts school), so ranking yourself among people who have harder or softer curves is just unfair.

The fact that a mere single point on the LSAT can be either an admission or a rejection from a school is pretty absurd and unfair too, but that's the law admissions world we know and love.

This. Guessing a single question right or wrong can mean the difference between an autoadmit and a WL.Aggiegrad2011 wrote:The fact that a mere single point on the LSAT can be either an admission or a rejection from a school is pretty absurd and unfair too, but that's the law admissions world we know and love.

Yeah! I think the GPA is MORE fair than that... just because regardless of difficulty, it is somewhat controllable-- you get as much as you give on an overall scale. And I mean.. for example, my boyfriend is a business major. He has to take all these hard math classes that I would fail instantly. I'm an english major, and while its easy for me-- he would completely fail at the first 30+ page paper on Shakespeare, Milton, or Chaucer. I do feel bad for the engineering or pre-med majors,... but thats because those majors set you up for a path much different than law school.whymeohgodno wrote:This. Interesting. I have 3.23 and 153 for NYU. I graduated awhile ago though. Grade inflation is intense. I am now very, very glad they include this information.emjay wrote:NYU:

Re: what are your "college means" for GPA and LSAT?
Probably a question that's been answered: What would the difference between the mean and your GPA have to be to be considered as a positive? Ok, obviously, anything in the "plus" range is good, but... +.3? +.5? I feel blessed by a school that had a mean of 3.12 during my time, but the LSAT mean was 151, so not exactly a stellar institution...

Mine is laughable. And so far the very worst by far ITT. I still wonder how that will make me look: good by contrast or bad by association haha.

Doubt it will have any effect at all.. One of my undergrads has pretty low numbers and so far my cycle is going exactly as would be predicted, possibly better even.Barbie wrote:mr_toad wrote:Probably a question that's been answered: What would the difference between the mean and your GPA have to be to be considered as a positive? Well, that could also be because of 9890483290483209480239 different things (PS, LORs, etc etc). I'm just curious with all things the same-- if your UG institution had better #s... would it be different?tkgrrett wrote:Doubt it will have any effect at all.. I suspect the admission committee must, perhaps subconsciously, discriminate undergrad institutions to an extent. I mean, they are human too.Barbie wrote: Well, that could also be because of 9890483290483209480239 different things (PS, LORs, etc etc). if two people are exact same in every respect in terms of numbers, qualifcations etc., and one's from an Ivy School, and one's from "Lame Duck University", who would you want at ur law school?
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
