When I went to Walmart last year, they were selling a "budget" version of the above chair for less that $100.00... I don't think the quality really compared too well though....

I got this for like 129 or something:

http://www.target.com/High-Back-Executi ... detaillink

It's out of stock now, but it's really comfy and easy to assemble. Also good for sitting indian style or with your legs in weird positions if that's your thing, because there's a lot of butt room.

Oooh! Definitely looking for butt room. I was considering getting a chair with no arms, but if there's extra butt room I can just stick my knees there instead.

If not the executive chair, this one. I got it right before it went from $70 off to $80 off. It's very comfy and probably long-lasting.

Go to an office supply store and buy one of the chairs on clearance. That way you can actually sit in it before you buy it, and you should be able to get a really good deal on a pretty good chair. That is how I got mine.

I wish.

I'm going to go with one of the $120 ones mentioned earlier. I'm also going to get a $200 ikea chaise because I'm much more comfortable reading when slightly reclined. I think it's worth it to spend enough to be comfortable. But I don't think attaining comfort has to cost 1k.

Any recommendations for <$250 price range? Looking for something mesh, leather averse.

Definitely check out Walmart. When I went before they had a $150.00 mesh chair. It probably doesn't compare too well with the real thing, but it was comfortable.

i got mine at office max. they had a really wide range of styles, and they were all on the floor to be tried out. the one i picked out is executive style, leather, normally at $140 but the sales person hooked me up with a $30 discount :D

It seems like an expensive chair is a bit of a luxury. I mean is it really necessary to buy a $200 chair as opposed to a $60-70 chair?

Absolutely, but is a $300 chair going to make any difference whatsoever compared to a $100 chair? I'm not asking this to be a jerk. I'm curious for myself as I have never bought a desk chair.

I really want to sit in one of these things to see what the big deal is. Can you buy these at most office store?

I don't think places like Office max or Staples sell them , cuase thy are 800-1500 dollars, but I bet you could find a local more upscale place that had one you could try out. Check the Herrman Miller website then look for a local retailer, call see if they have one, then go sit in it for awhile. But really te main thing is you can sit in it for 10 hours and not be tired.

i doubt it. my $120 chair is nicer than what i'm used to, provided i can assemble it on my own.....
