After getting kicked out of law school, fast-talking Jay Garvey (Brad Raider) and his failed medical school pal, Nick (Sean Murray), discover that the wild beach partiers during college spring break need legal assistance to stay out of jail. Their business takes off, with Jay double-talking the judge into acquittals and Nick writing phony doctor's notes for defendants, until Jay becomes a local pop culture legend. But self-righteous Senator Claxton (Gary Grubbs) decides to crack down on the rampant juvenile behavior with maximum penalties, and Jay and Nick get tossed into the slammer for minor offenses. Meanwhile, the case of a pathetic innocent who was railroaded into jail increases in importance -- particularly with Jay's ostensible girlfriend, Jenny (Busy Philipps) -- and Jay has to use all of his pseudo legal skills to get himself and Nick out of jail to save the day.

if you watch the show "24" it deals with hot topics like international law and the problems we have with military tribunals/gitmo/torture, etc. Very informative.

Also Mr.Deeds because it remotely involves the legal aspect of wills. at some of these suggestions.

My college pre-law advisor showed it for a class, but my school library had it, so I can't really direct you to it anywhere. It's worth seeing, if only to get some sense of how much work law school really is. Actually, it kind of scared the crap out of me, which was probably necessary.

Checking out youtube videos...cool stuff!

this one is interesting: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BufcBAly ... re=related

The Paper Chase was terrible.

Legally Blonde is just a fun movie to watch. I hadn't seen it since early high school, and I watched it the night before I took the LSAT and was so mad after the scene where she studies all week instead of going out for Greek Week and then pulls a 179 up from like the 140s on her diagnostic.

Haha, yes! ... But lol @ it actually being a law school movie. Less likely to help you "stay motivated" & more likely to get you to cash a student loan check, drop out, & start looking for a sketchy mob-connected poker joint... then give up go to a casino to embark on a short-lived career as a professional poker player.

It is a surprisingly good movie. Though, the thing that pisses me off is that it's supposed to be so shocking she got into Harvard when she has a freaking 179 and a 4.0. Ugh.

And enough cannot be said about My Cousin Vinny. The two best parts are the instant grits scene and the last scene. Awesome.

A Few Good Men made me want to be in the JAG corps for a few days. Young Tom Cruise is awesome.

Yay! And there's a little property law in there too.

"Up For Grabs" was a film about Barry Bonds' 73rd home run ball in 2001 and the legal battle that ensued over who owned the ball - the man that caught it or the man that ended up with it. I really enjoyed it.

You can watch it for free online if you have netflix.

This flick was not about Barry Bonds, was not even really about baseball, but a really interesting case of property law.

No self-respecting southerner uses instant grits.

Not law school movies, but there are some great motivational court room scenes in the following:

Ghostbusters 2
Animal House
Judge Dredd (I AM THE LAW!)
The Boondock Saints
Cannibal the Musical

For more serious fare, check out HBO's John Adams and The Wire

Murder On a Sunday Morning

By far, this is the best documentary about the value of the right to a lawyer. The fate of the PDs in this movie is sad though.

These are not law school movies but 2 legal movies that I found to be very interesting are as follows:

Nuts (1987) Barbara Streisand - high-class call girl accused of murder fights for the right to stand trial rather than be declared mentally incompetent.

And Justice for All (1979) - Al Pacino - this my favorite performance by Pacino as an idealistic defense attorney.

Oh man I wanna take that class.

A great legal-themed movie I saw recently was Kieslowski's Dekalog 5.
