Okay, I know my question is a little off topic and a little forward thinking, but what do you guys plan on doing with your stuff during 1L/2L summer? Do you plan on leasing an apartment for 12 months and keeping it there? I'm sure many people plan on interning/clerking in a different city from where they're going to school. What do these people do? Move constantly? Put their stuff in storage for a couple of months? I'm curious to know what you all plan on doing.

The trick is to pare down your belongings, so that it fits neatly into a small truck (pick-up/uhaul/whathaveyou). Also, to buy a set of matching, stack-able plastic bins that fit nicely in said truck. This makes moving much easier, so picking up and moving to an apartment and back becomes less of a hassle. Also, don't own a lot of furniture until you buy a house, or at least until you rent a place near where you will work when you graduate.

I'm just leasing for 12 months and paying rent over the summer. I'll take $5000 in wasted rent over the hassle of totally dissembling my apartment, packing it up, moving it, storing it, moving it back, unpacking... twice... is not worth the effort to me. I moved my stuff into storage every summer for four years of college and it sucked.

For my 3L year I'll ask for a nine month lease or something, so I can move out before the summer.

I'm going to dump a big chunk of my belongings at the home of the nearest relative. I plan to survive on essentials.

I ended up staying local.... but if I were moving, I looked into Pods and that would've been best thing for me.

I know at least in NYC, lot of people end up switching apartments for whatever reason. I'm at Columbia, and I hated the first apartment the Student Housing peeps dumped me in, so when I had an opportunity to move I just put my stuff in storage for the summer and moved it into a new place in August when I came back. I know Manhattan Mini Storage has pickup services, too, which might be free for students - that would make it TOTALLY worth it. Either way, though, I know they have a TON of locations around the city and the one near Columbia (107th/Amsterdam) was super clean and the staff was super-nice. I took advantage of this student storage special this summer, too: --LinkRemoved--

Is anybody thinking of going the shipping you car route? I'm moving TX to California, and honestly it's looking like I could save a pretty penny by just buying new stuff out there and shipping the car fully loaded.

My mom's driving up with me, so we'll have two cars packed with all my personal belongings. Thankfully, I don't have to worry about furniture since I'm moving in with a friend whose place is already furnished. If I didn't have a furnished apartment, I think I'd go the Ikea route.

Uhaul with my Mom/Dad, Brother, and girlfriend. Free labor is the best! ~500 miles from DC to Syracuse.

I currently live 3,000 miles away from my new school (and have for 6 years), but my parents live only about 60 miles away. I'm selling all of my stuff, shipping clothes, sentimental items, etc.. Luckily my parents are giving me my old (really nice!) bedroom set and a couch and a kitchen table. We're planning to hire movers for the furniture, though.

Moving is really a hassle isn't it?!

I was going to use a moving company, but a quote to move to Nashville was 2000+ bucks. If I do the PODS/Upack thing it'll be under 1000. Think I'll just get some friends to help and pay for the mover dudes to move it in to my place in Nashville.

Moving from Salt Lake City, Utah to Charlottesville, VA. I'm bringing my clothes, playstation/surround sound, movies, and some books. The rest I'm selling. I'll buy furniture for my bedroom on craiglist and amazon (my roommate is bringing living room furniture) when I get there.

Doing what I did for undergrad: U-haul with a trailer behind to put my car on (entire car on trailer, not the front axle BS one)

Moving from a life spare of material things in Hong Kong, to a one with a bunch of new stuff in Connecticut. I've already jotted down different plans for future desk and bed arrangements using the room plans offered by a few of the apartments in the area.

Just went to their website- for a 17 foot truck and trailer it's $298.00.
They quote me that price and say that covers 2 days of use and/or 197 miles. I put in the city where I'll pick it up and the city where I'll drop it off...which is only 165 miles away...

For long distance moves, they give you a mileage limit and you only have to pay by the mile if you exceed it.

I'm going to be moving from Charlotte, NC to DC. I'm not sure exactly how many miles it is, but according to mapquest its just over 6hrs. My sister and I share an apartment now and are both moving to the DC Metro area at the end of July & will be roomies again

My parents are coming up from Southern Mississippi and New Orleans, LA to help with the move. I've also talked my other sisters and an uncle into helping as well. Having my family come up probably isn't necessary, but I just kinda want them there. I haven't decided what to do with my furniture yet. I'm quite attached to it, but everyone keeps telling me I should sell it & buy all new stuff.

Probably just getting an ABF "pod" like was posted above. My wife's king bed and foam topper are too good to sell. A couple tables and random things too along with our clothes and other junk. The rest we'll pack in whichever car we don't sell and drive from Utah to Boston!

I know I'm going to fall asleep twice on the drive there.

I'm thinking about moving a bunch of my stuff through amtrak. I'm going from west coast to east coast and it's only $275 for 500lbs (pay per lb). No furniture, but I have lots of stuff that probably won't fit in my car. We'll probably sell all our furniture. Oy...moving is stressful.

Moving 350 miles. Moving all of my furniture ( for a furnished 1 bedroom apt with a reading room) in a 17 foot Uhaul except for my dressers that are too heavy and bulky. Will buy those pieces at my new city and have them delivered. Brining my golf clubs, tv, liquor cabinet stock and a bag of clothes in my car and the rest in the Uhaul.

Have to leave the dog with my parents- as hes too sick to make the trip and needs to be let out of the house every 3 hours to go to the bathroom, or he goes in the house. Its tearing me apart on the inside, but he loves my parents house, so hes in a good place ( plus the vet lives down the street from them).
