I went to undergrad in DC. I highly recommend living in Virginia and using the metro. Prices go down and the quality of housing options improve exponentially when you get outside of the DC city limits. The trip from Ballston to Foggy bottom is only about 10 minutes. Rush hour is only really bad on the train between 4 and 6 pm.
