I own a cheap Bulova watch. I'm happy with it, but skeptical of the brand in general (dat lay prestige).moneybagsphd wrote:Thinking about picking this up http://www.amazon.com/Bulova-96A106-Aut ... rds=bulova

I also own a cheap Bulova that I used for OCI (this one: http://www.zappos.com/bulova-mens-strap ... lver-white). I have to say though, I really don't like the one you've picked out there. I would keep looking.moneybagsphd wrote:Thinking about picking this up http://www.amazon.com/Bulova-96A106-Aut ... rds=bulova

I think it's a good option for OCI if you're on a budget.InGoodFaith wrote:Nice, this is the exact one I own.

I don't fuck with quartz movement (usually low quality). I plan on getting a leather strap, though (metal catches on arm hairs). Also, I'd like something with a more minimalist design than the Bulova I posted...Bronte wrote:I also own a cheap Bulova that I used for OCI (this one: http://www.zappos.com/bulova-mens-strap ... lver-white). I would reassess your views about quartz. You are getting a bottom of the barrel mechanical movement when you're paying $200 for the watch. In general, quart is probably the way to go at that price point. I like that Seiko 5 better than the Bulova though, but then again I'm a little bit of a Seiko-head and it's hard to love Bulova.moneybagsphd wrote:I don't fuck with quartz movement (usually low quality). I am a fan of the mechanical movement. In large part because it is a bit of a through-back, and I find it somewhat comforting that I have one device that is not susceptible to a battery dying. The watch that I have been eyeing is the Seiko Marine Master 300M (SBDX001), but as long as I have an ongoing pile of medical bills, this will have to wait. In the meantime I have have really enjoyed my inexpensive Seiko SKX007, it is basic, but, it has served me well for several years.Bronte wrote: I would reassess your views about quartz. Yes the Seiko MM300 is the truth. I would likely own one if I weren't concerned its 44mm would be too big for my wrist. I really want a Grand Seiko SBGR051 (--LinkRemoved--), but I think it's wise to restrain myself given my loans and all.haus wrote:I am a fan of the mechanical movement. For now I have a Seiko SARB071 (--LinkRemoved--), which works well as a poor man's Grand Seiko, at least until I'm out of law school. Oh and yes the SKX007 is a great watch as well. You might also look at the Seiko "Sumo" SBDC001 for a mid-priced Seiko diver (--LinkRemoved--).

I would never pay that much for a watch with a mineral crystal. Look at Hamilton and Tissot (you might like the Tissot Le Locle) for a good watch at that price point.

All this "grail," "JLC," "ETA," etc. talk, and I get the sense there is some significant TLS / watch forum cross over.

I actually got two random compliments on it today. A couple of people in my classes each said "hey man, nice watch." Also, my roommate was pleasantly surprised. I guess she thought I was going to get some bigass digital watch or something.top30man wrote:Orients are incredible for the price.NoodleyOne wrote:My orient came in today...

I own the 8462. Nice, heavy watch. Very accurate. Versatile in terms of dress (especially when you change the bands). My only complaint is that sometimes it is too heavy. Also is a rather big watch, I don't know how appropriate it is for business environments.KeepitKind wrote:thoughts on this Baume & Mercier Classima?

Congrats. An Orient is a very tasteful choice. Post pictures. I'll post two favorites of mine:NoodleyOne wrote:I actually got two random compliments on it today.
