Yeah, I turned down the great job prospects because, you know, the school just doesn't sound pretentious enough out here in CaliforniaRedBirds2011 wrote:Tom Joad wrote:Northwestern has shitty prestige and is a T14 in employment prospects only.

Then two separate bands, one with top regionals in midsize markets, like WUSTL, Washington, Minnesota, Emory, and another with second-stringers in major markets (BC, BU, GW, Fordham, W&L?)
After that perhaps top regionals in smaller markets, like ASU, Indiana and Alabama.
Smaller markets?? You know PHX is the 6th largest city in the country right? and ASU is about 5 min away.Geeeez at least wikipedia that crap before posting it.

Pepprdine is needed if for no other reason than its campus locationJamMasterJ wrote:sure, consolidate some tiny states. But we don't need Cardozo or Pepperdine.dingbat wrote:Not entirely correct. On the other hand, having 3-5 (total) in NY makes total sense.
Mathematically, there are about 150 law schools graduating 45k law students for 25k law jobs, so we need a reduction of about half, to around 75 law schools.
T14 + 1 per state would leave us a little short.
If places like Wyoming and Montana decide to pool resources and have 1 law school (which makes sense) then that creates a few more spots for some of the bigger states (eg Texas probably needs 4 or 5)
But yes, there are too many law schools

Phoenix might be the 6th largest city in the country (I'll take your word for it), but that doesn't mean it's the 6th largest legal market.mewalke1 wrote:Then two separate bands, one with top regionals in midsize markets, like WUSTL, Washington, Minnesota, Emory, and another with second-stringers in major markets (BC, BU, GW, Fordham, W&L?)

The biggest legal markets are, in order of total payroll:
1. New York
2. Washington DC
3. L.A.
4. Chicago
5. Miami
6. Philadelpia
7. San Francisco
8. Boston
9. Dallas
10. Houston
16. Phoenix
In terms of number of employees, there are slight variations (DC 3, LA 2), but it's more or less the same.
on a separate note, how Phoenix is 6th biggest is beyond me:
Greater NY: 19 million
Greater LA: 12.8 million
Chicago: 9.5m
Dallas: 6.3m
Philadelphia: 5.9m
Houston: 5.7m
Miami: 5.5m
Boston: 5.4m
Atlanta: 5.3m
San Francisco: 4.3m
DC: 5.3m
Detroit: 4.4m
Phoenix: 4.3m
(I'll admit, my data is a year old. Maybe phoenix grew by 50% in the last 15 months)

Market is a term that refers to the standard big firm pay rate in, well, the market. Hence the name. So yes, by definition some Miami firms pay market. But if by market you mean 160k like NYC, no.morally0bese wrote:Do Miami firms (what's left of them) pay market?

I already put in an application to Brown law. I didn't care that Miami-OH gave me a fee waiver, the $12 LSAC fee was still too much.

Why is the OP asking about rankings 10 years from now? Is the OP an 11-year trying to get a head-start on his applications?
