Arts After 1945, talked about "what is art?" everyday. literally no wrong answer possible.
History of Rock and History of Jazz, prof wrote the book on both and essentially just read it aloud during class no attendance requirement finished with 230/220 points in Rock and something like that in Jazz.
Clothing and Human Behavior
Family Finance-Balancing Checkbooks, etc.
Intro to Theatre
Childhood Development, we had a computer program where we had to grow a kid from birth to 18 and be the dad or mom.
Science of Food
Multicultural Education-watched coach cater, higher learning, no tests, class was divided into groups and you only had to read the chapter of the book your group was assigned (translated to me having to read 2 pages and talk about it with the class). Met one night a week from 6-9, went from 6-730. Teacher canceled class four times (like canceling 4 weeks).
This is bad.

Funny story about this one. At my school we had Computer Science 1103 and 1013. One was Intro to Computers, the other was Intro to Computer Science (arguably the hardest freshman class in our school). You can imagine all the disgruntled slackers who signed up for the wrong one.
Seriously, in my second day of the Computer Science class I noticed that we had lost at least 1/4 of the class.
But, in terms of useless classes, how about Leadership Ethics? "It is not right to steal money meant for the business" yada yada yada. I think we had like 2 tests.

+1. The only thing worse than taking "Intro to Computers" is I receiving your one and only F in "Intro to Computers." (Yes, this happened to me). It was for a bullshit reason, but the adcoms at every law school I've applied to get to see that I got an F in Intro to Computers, which I'm sure makes them want to admit me to their school.dibs wrote:"Intro to Computers".

Advanced performance studies
For people that were participating in the dance production of the term: We had to be enrolled in a class that actually only met for one week (the week of the performances). We all got As in an advanced upper division art class for showing up before call time to stretch as a cast. Chances are, if you are dancing, you need a place to stretch anyway. Many of the dances were more modern in genre so some parts of our stretching/warm up was making weird noises at each other. I would gladly "take" this class again if given the chance.

How about Water in the West? A class all about the water problems in CA....guess where I went to school. I also took bowling, and my personal fav. Women in Sport, which was an online class that we had to actually come to class several times...WTF? Imagine the idiots that took that one.

Also, I'm currently in Environmental Policy, Politics and Planning, which is making me rethink caring about the environment. The professor basically spends all class ranting against nuclear power and then assigns us to put together briefs on topics we haven't even mentioned in class (or in the readings). It kind of scares me that he also teaches in the urban planning grad school.
I would drop it, except add period is over, and I'm currently taking the minimum credits required to graduate with honors so I have the time to finish my thesis.

isn't nuclear power >>> gas/coal for the environment ? i know solar/wind is ideal, but also high-cost. nuclear seems like a great alternativeBenJ wrote:Also, I'm currently in Environmental Policy, Politics and Planning, which is making me rethink caring about the environment. In reasonable people's opinions, yes nuclear>>>gas/coal. Unfortunately people on the far left hear nuclear and begin to rail against it by referenceing Three Mile Island and Chernobyl. They refuse to come to terms with the fact that it is a remarkably safe form of energy. When Obama supported building a couple more reactors recently (NRC recently approved plans for the first time in decades), Olbermann went on air screaming about Three Mile Island and the Simpsons.englawyer wrote:isn't nuclear power >>> gas/coal for the environment ? i know solar/wind is ideal, but also high-cost. nuclear seems like a great alternativeBenJ wrote:Also, I'm currently in Environmental Policy, Politics and Planning, which is making me rethink caring about the environment. I generally agree*, but the traditional environmentalist movement does not. That he's definitely at least in his sixties makes it make some sense, since he presumably was a part of the environmental movement back when nuclear was a really hot issue. But it doesn't excuse making snide remarks about it when we're on a pretty much unrelated topic.englawyer wrote:isn't nuclear power >>> gas/coal for the environment ? i know solar/wind is ideal, but also high-cost. nuclear seems like a great alternativeBenJ wrote:Also, I'm currently in Environmental Policy, Politics and Planning, which is making me rethink caring about the environment. *I'm still leery of nuclear power. There are few nuclear plants across most of the world except in a few places (notably France), yet we already have some difficulty finding good places to store the nuclear waste. If we, say, quintupled the number of nuclear plants in the US, we might pretty quickly run out of space to put the waste. Plus, in the long run, uranium is just as non-renewable as fossil fuels. If all of the world's power were generated by nuclear plants instead of coal/natural gas or renewables, we'd run out of uranium in a couple of centuries. (I saw the exact figures once, don't recall what they were.)
Still, nuclear plants are an okay interim choice as we transition to renewable energy. They shouldn't be subsidized to the point of being cheaper than subsidized renewables (the main issue with renewables' cost is still lack of economies of scale, not "actual" high costs; China is doing a good job of creating the necessary economies of scale for us), but they should be encouraged over fossil fuels.

Sexual orientation and gender studies.
It was like studying myself. Quite honestly it is weird to have a straight professor talk about the "gay life style". He was so proud of knowing about this underground life through his research, and I was still hangover and sore form experiencing it last night.
I did get an A- and hooked up with at least 6 other students.

Bob Dylan.
We sat around listening to his records and then dissected the lyrics.

I loved it.

I took "The American Gangster through Cinema". Brandon Rush, Mario Chalmers, Darrel Arthur and Julian Wright were all in it. Amazing class. 3 hours once a week. We would talk for about 20 mins about the context of the film and then watch classics like Goodfellas, Godfather, Ma Barker etc... So much fun.

Physics. Actually, more like study this packet before each exam and see the exact same questions on the actual test. repeat three times. receive A. don't learn physics.
