Re: 7 Months Before 1L...what are we doing?
travel japan as much as possible while I am still here, save money, move back to the united states to spend less than 2 weeks with my family that I have barely seen in two years and then move to wherever my law school will be.

If you're still in UG, take about 29 more months off and then attend.

1. After 7 years, quit my first career.
2. Start new lower-paying job that I picked as temporary mind-clearer (and it's in legal field, so whatever that's worth).
3. Continue waiting for admissions decisions.
4. Run first marathon in March.
5. Continue waiting for admissions decisions.
6. Continue waiting for admissions decisions.
7. Wonder whether to attend local TTT with $$$ while buying a house w/SO.
8. Decide against #7 when deadline for housing tax credit passes and I still awaiting admissions decisions.
9. Propose to SO?
10. Regret #1, but only because of the loss of 3 weeks of vacation means I can't do cooler stuff before August.
11. Regret #2 when I quit to attend law school and they get angry at me.
12. Section hike the entire Ozark Highlands Trail.
13. Start amassing $130K+ in debt and begin to regret #8 for rest of life.

Just got a job as a front desk clerk, so I will work and save until law school.
Also will be taking as many camping/fishing/boating trips as I possibly can until law school starts.

I'm the campus activities coordinator at my alma mater. Glorified party planner. It's fantastic.
Spending tons of time outside in the Rocky Mountains. Drinking heavily. Playing lots of darts and ping pong. Dicking around. Then traveling all summer before up and moving to California in August for school.

Re: 7 Months Before 1L...what are we doing?
Cool thanks for the advice. I've tried so many times to get to Myanmar while living over there (Malaysia) but it just never worked out. This time I am going, come hell or high water!
What's the visa situation like? Can you obtain one in Thailand or at the border? Is it difficult?
As far as I understand you have to get it from the embassy (best one to get is Thailand, takes few days). But you cannot get it at the border. You can get one to go in just for one day to a border town, but to get to travel around the country you have to get a visa and actually fly in to the country.
Which is unfortunate. I'm currently teaching English in northeastern Thailand and a bunch of teachers from my school went to Myanmar a few weeks ago, but due to short notice I wasn't able to get the visa together in time. I hope to go there at some point, though, as well as Vietnam, Cambodia, Malaysia and Singapore. I stop teaching at the end of February, so I'll be travelling around southeast asia for several months before starting law school.

Re: 7 Months Before 1L...what are we doing?
1. Narrow down which law schools I actually want to attend.
2. Visit those schools, research cost of living, determine moving expenses (if applicable)
3. Decide on a LS.
4. Find a place to live for next year.
5. Finish UG
6. Plan and go on an awesome vacation over the summer...it might be my last one for 3 years.
7. Buy everything that I need for law school but don't have.
8. Have a lot of sex now while I still can.
9. Move
10.Repeat #8.

Makes me feel young. But whatever I'll be 15 months out! I plan on going hiking and kayaking a lot seeing as I will likely be sitting at a desk for the majority of my foreseeable future. F**k it I should just be a ski instructor.thecubiclelife wrote:If you're still in UG, take about 29 more months off and then attend.

Re: 7 Months Before 1L...what are we doing?
Just started a new job (slightly better pay, close to home) as a clinical research associate...
...if it weren't for the fact that (a) I like nice things, (b) I love this area, (c) I just turned 25, I would quit and move in with the parents and basically become a bum until starting law school.
I've been working full time in research for closing in on 2 years now...I can't wait to get back into school. I just have to make sure I quit with a gap of a few weeks before school starts so I can bum it up.

Re: 7 Months Before 1L...what are we doing?
hmm i have been debating getting a "real job" but i thought there might be a sketchiness factor (knowing you will quit in 6 months, a strange resume item, etc). i guess you didn't have the same thought process ?Great Satchmo wrote:Just started a new job (slightly better pay, close to home) as a clinical research associate...

Re: 7 Months Before 1L...what are we doing?
If you work at a job with high turnover it ain't no thang. I recently got a job in a call center for 12.50/hr and they don't care that I'm LS bound. I was straight up with other employers and didn't even get an interview once they knew I was splittin' (this was about 2 1/2 months ago). I would rather have a semi-shitty job where my boss enthusiastically recommends me as opposed to a semi-legit job in which my employer thinks I'm a lying bastard. At this point I don't think you're going to be getting a job that will be a game changer on your resume unless you can land a real cool internship over the summer. Keep in mind the economy sucks hardcore and there are plenty of college grads that are trying their hardest to get a full time gig somewhere, anywhere, but are frappin' lattes at Starbucks.englawyer wrote:hmm i have been debating getting a "real job" but i thought there might be a sketchiness factor (knowing you will quit in 6 months, a strange resume item, etc). i guess you didn't have the same thought process ?Great Satchmo wrote:Just started a new job (slightly better pay, close to home) as a clinical research associate...
