Why study in the library?
I feel pretty dumb asking this question, but as a 0L n00b, I'm hoping you'll be kind.
Why do people spend so much study time in the library? Is it just because it's quiet and a good place to focus, or are there resources there you wouldn't be able to access online from home/Starbucks/wherever? I'd like to be able to do at least some studying at home in the evenings; will this be possible?

Because studying at home leaves no opportunity to bang a chick in the stacks.Siamsa414 wrote:I feel pretty dumb asking this question, but as a 0L n00b, I'm hoping you'll be kind.

Plenty of people do 100% of their studying at home.Siamsa414 wrote:I feel pretty dumb asking this question, but as a 0L n00b, I'm hoping you'll be kind.

Studying in the library is stupid. Right when you start to reach an epiphany

Re: Why study in the library?
I do all of my studying at home. From the people I've talked to who do all/most of their studying at school it seems to be either because (1) they need/enjoy the social aspect of it, or (2) they get too easily distracted at home.
Don't worry about it now. Figure out what works for you when you get there.

Re: Why study in the library?
Yea it makes little difference to me but I know people who do it because they get too distracted at home. Also, I had a friend who always had to eat when she studied and when she was at home it was much easier to eat a sh*t ton of food right from her kitchen but when she was at the library not so much.

Re: Why study in the library?
sometimes studying in the library gives you the feeling that your at work in an office. By treating it as a job you can focus on the goal and get through the material with minimal distractions. Also, I'd rather associate my home as a place where i can relax, breathe, watch tv, and sleep rather than where i do the majority of my studying. I think that separation is healthy, especially in law school.

Re: Why study in the library?
I plan to adopt this outlook/practice, plus I will be commuting about 45 minutes by train to get to and from school--not so easy to go home to study and then back to the library in an event I do need a resource or to talk to a fellow classmate.Norwood wrote:sometimes studying in the library gives you the feeling that your at work in an office. Re: Why study in the library?
It probably depends on the library too. I only saw Columbia's and NYU's, and Columbia's law library looked terrible for studying. The librarian there told me to study in the architecture library. NYU's looked okay. You basically just need to find somewhere comfy where you can get your comprehension going.

I'm less likely to slack off and start surfing TLS if people I know are around. I wouldn't be caught dead on this site in public.
