How was Admitted Students Day?

Disclaimer: I only went to Friday's events.

Personally, I had a blast. I arrived at the end of the opening remarks and left right before Wigmore's Follies. I genuinely don't have really much, if anything negative to say, except that they should give me a bigger scholly.

The clinic opportunities sound great but definitely not unique to NU. A lot of other top schools have the same clinics (of course with minor variations). The big difference that was pointed out is that you "bid" on clinics to get in. At the beginning of each 2L and 3L semester, you'll get bid points (3Ls get more than 2Ls). With these points you bid on your classes and the clinics. They will have market prices from the previous year, so you'll know what to bid to get into each class/clinic. This sounds really great to me. I hated having to apply to school organizations as an undergraduate. The panel just said that if you're bidding the right amount of points for their clinic, then they just assume you're interested and as qualified as the rest of the student body. I know at other schools you have to apply, interview, and high grades/good recs/LR to get into some of the very competitive clinics. As for the actual clinic work, it sounds like you could have the chance to travel domestically and internationally, argue in front of a judge, write motions, and do other substantive work. Of course, opportunities vary per clinic. The wrongful convictions clinic likely isn't flying people out to do research/interview in the Congo.

Lunch was dope: deep dish & garret's popcorn.

Class after lunch was garbage fire for me. I was in legislation, and I wanted to claw my eyes out. They seemed to be in the middle of a concept/unit, and it was mostly incoherent if you didn't know much about the concept/unit. The professor (Jacobi) seemed good though. People in the Law and Social Policy course (or whatever it's called) all seemed to give it high marks. I'm a big bummed I didn't pick that one.

The Financial Aid meeting was basically stuff I already knew. The only remotely interesting things (to me) were finding out that federal loans don't capitalize until you leave school and that there is a Pritzker Interest Freedom plan if you fuck up and fail to get a job or get one paying <$90,000 in the private sector. The plan basically pays for your interest for two years if you land in either of those two undesirable positions. Hopefully it'll be irrelevant to me come graduation.

The school tour at 4 was on point. I really liked one of my tour guides. They were very frank and open, like all the other students, about life as a 1L, law school, professors, and anything we'd like to know. The facilities themselves were very nice, especially the Rubloff building. Levy Mayer was older, but it didn't seemed rundown, more classic if anything. The library has three floors, and they look out to the lake. They said the school made the decision to use that space for the law school students instead of faculty when the built the place. The new cafe and fortress of solitude look slick as can be, and it all seems great.

I could really go on forever. I'm in love, hah.

What about taking FIVE classes per semester during 1L? Is that more stressful than other law schools where the norm seems to be four? Thank you!!

I didn't find it that big of an issue. Sure, four would be nicer, but some of the schools who go with four also have a couple 4hr courses mixed in there. Also, with four, you're tethered to doctrinal courses/legal writing for the entirety of your 1L year. Because NU does five, your second semester only has TWO required doctrinal courses + legal writing. You'll be able to select your other two classes as electives, and join your 2L and 3L colleagues.

The electives are from a more limited list of the entire NU course menu, but it's probably still 20 classes from which you can choose to mix in with your remaining two doctrinal courses in the spring.

OMG! I was a complete flake when I got there! I just got carried away enjoying follies and the weekend as a whole that I just became such a ditz about this thread. For that, I apologize!! I would have loved to meet you guys but the good news is, we'll have plenty of time to either meet each other via a future TLS meetup OR organically! <3

I LOVED Northwestern. I loved the faculty, the students, the vibe AND I loved Chicago. I noticed I began drinking the koolaid when people asked me whether or not I was decided. On Thursday it was a no. On Friday it was a "contingent on Penn's waitlist outcomes." On Saturday it was a yes.

For those of you who didn't attend, I hope you can make a visit at some point. It really gave me the clarity that I needed. I look forward to hopefully seeing each and every one of you!

At a panel I attended, a professor flat-out said the previous dean was much more involved in student life.

I wasn't at follies, but I don't consider it concerning, because the employment outcomes pretty much speak for themselves imo. As for Dean R, I'm completely fine with him not being very involved with student life. As long as he is addressing the concerns of the students and faculty, I don't care if he hides himself in his office all day. You have real concerns, but I don't think you should have them based off a comedy play that's going to poke fun at everything it possibly can however warranted or not.
