the worst thing is they will say noxn3345 wrote:If Chi gave me half what NYU did, what are the chances chi will match or increase their offer?
I had success negotiating with UChicago last year with peer schools and slightly lower ranked schools. Definitely give it a shot.xn3345 wrote:If Chi gave me half what NYU did, what are the chances chi will match or increase their offer?

Same! Also, and perhaps this is an unfair assessment, but does it concern anyone that UChicago Law tends to have a reputation for being particularly harsh/competitive when it comes to grading? I've heard murmurs of "grade deflation." Anyone have any insight on this?Anon.y.mousse. wrote:yeah I did last night!curry1 wrote:anyone get an e-mail from a faculty member yet?
I don't have any special insight, but that reputation makes since given that UChi's grading scale lends itself more to pretty detailed comparisons between students more than other peer schools (i.e. the high pass/pass/low pass system at Harvard/no grades at Yale (is that a thing?)). It's pretty easy for employers/judges/whoever is hiring to look at two transcripts and deduce that a 182 is better than a 180, whereas both of those students at Harvard might have had a high pass and been seen as the same, for all intents and purposes. But that is based on my very limited knowledge of how Chi's grading works!VA2lawschool wrote:Same! Thanks for providing your take, that makes sense! I don't think I would be concerned if it didn't affect the dynamic amongst students (particularly in 1L sections). I would ask an alum on here, but I'm not sure whether that question has been beaten to death previously.Anon.y.mousse. wrote:I don't have any special insight, but that reputation makes since given that UChi's grading scale lends itself more to pretty detailed comparisons between students more than other peer schools (i.e. the high pass/pass/low pass system at Harvard/no grades at Yale (is that a thing?)). ETA: It doesn't particularly concern me I guess because UChi's reputation is so solid overall that those really granular comparisons might not mean much in the grand scheme of things. Also I guess I don't have any info as to the other point - the percentage of Chi students earning what would constitute an A or a HP or an equivalent outstanding grade at other peer schools.
