Still waiting as well and also had final review date change on 4/24. I called the office of student financial services and told them how I was told I'd hear back by Tuesday but still have not yet received a notification. They seemed to treat the situation more urgently when I told them I had a deadline from another school that was coming up this weekend.huskyfan72309 wrote:Yes. How do we check what stage we're on for financial aid?

If you log onto the FAAPS website (which can be accessed under the Financial Aid section of the admitted students website), there is a link at the top that says "My Status," which will tell you where your application is in the review process.MoonyUpToNoGood wrote:armc808 wrote:huskyfan72309 wrote:Yes. I'd think that everyone would be getting decisions in the next day or so? They can't expect us to deposit if we don't have any aid info, right? Or maybe I'm giving the process too much credit

Re: NYU Class of 2020 - new poll cuz school is starting in 4 months
I just received my financial award and am now faced with a decision of Cornell with 120k total scholarship or NYU with 52/60k total depending on what I do in my 2L summer. I also still have not heard anything from Georgetown regarding scholarships. Does anybody have any advice given NYU wants a decision by May 1?

For those of you still waiting for financial aid info, I emailed NYU and they said they hope to have the awards out within 24-48 hours

Re: NYU Class of 2020 - new poll cuz school is starting in 4 months
Hey y'all! Question about outside scholarships in case anyone has already had this conversation with Financial Aid: in my award letter, it says if I were to get an outside scholarship and it in combination with what NYU has given me were to exceed tuition costs, NYU would reduce the amount of their scholarship such that they'd combine to equal no more than tuition. Does anyone know if this is something they definitively do in practice? I'd ideally put money beyond tuition towards books/fees/COL, which is not exactly a drop in the COA bucket... this seems like a ridiculous thing for them to do, but I can also totally see them doing it, unfortunately.
Thanks in advance if anyone has experience with this!

You have to think of school-based scholarships as discount coupons, not money. If the outside scholarship is paid directly to your bank account, you might be able to get away with using all of each because to NYU it looks like you are paying cash for the tuition payment. NYU will just apply all of what it awarded you and you can use the private scholarship for living expenses. If the private scholarship is paid directly to the school, there's no way NYU is just gonna cut you a check for the difference, especially if they tell you they won't.noroomfordoubt wrote:Hey y'all! Think about it, it's incredibly cheap for them to just let you sit in on classes that are already happening for free, that's why they give out such generous "scholarships". If they had to pay you the difference, it would be a huge drain on their bank account, and they are greedy I'm sure.
That's just my read on the situation, I have no experience with this first-hand.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
