Tbh, when I was AT ASW, we ended up organizing to do things after going out at night (namely hookah) lol.Keilz wrote:I'm leaving my house at 4:30am tomorrow for the airport. I'm going to be exhausted.
I can try and organize a meet up - would Saturday be okay since Michigan actually provides night events? Or after the house party?

Re: Michigan Class of 2020
Currently trying to decide on a compact AWD SUV to buy since I'm going to have to brave the snow in Michigan and my car, as much as I love it, is nottttt meant for snow. Luckily, my parents will be paying for it. Still, as much as I love options, I also hate them. Hoping a car will just "seem right" once I drive it. Also hard deciding because I'm a (sporty) coupe kinda gal so I don't LOVE any SUV

Edit: but as you can see, everyone, ASW is a good time and you should totally go and love the place so we can be classmates and have our own music-related debates. kbai ~

Everyone loves rav4s. Never had one but they seem pretty compact! And can't go wrong with toyotas. I'll just bring my civic with me. I am so pissed right now. I was supposed to be in Michigan by now but Delta cancelled my flight at like midnight last night and there are NO ALTERNATIVES. So now I'm flying to CLEVELAND late tonight and taking an overnight Greyhound to Ann Arbor. I won't get there until tomorrow morning
so so so bummed I'm missing today's events.
(Also, I'm not even home right now -- I'm stranded in Philly because I was visiting Penn this week so this is not fun)

My girlfriend has CX 7 (which they discontinued I think) but we always get the 5 when we have to take it into the shop. Can confirm Mazda makes a great sporty SUV. The 5 is a perfect size and they all drive like coupesamberb94 wrote:My fiancé just got a Mazda CX 5 and it's great! Reasonably priced too. Props on the dedication to get here. ATL was a circus this morning. Huge storms passed thru yesterday causing mass cancellations and delays- just an unlucky travel weekend. Scholly bump would only make Mich a little over $20,000 more than NU. If you would have asked me at the beginning of this cycle if I would take Mich over NU for that price, I would have bit your hand off! I am so bummed this comes after I'll have missed both Mich's ASWs. Guess we will see how much I like NU this weekend and then maybe I will be forced to haul out to A2 next week. Shit, did not think this option would be back on the table. I want to hear everything you loved or hated about the school if you can bother to message me!

I'd really appreciate it. I've been to A2 quite a few times and love the city, but don't know much about the law school environment there. Also, not bothered by, but not impressed by college-related things. I'm pretty sure I'll visit next week if I don't fall in love with NU - I'm in Chicago so the drive isn't too bad.chandhi wrote:Ahhh huuuuuge congrats! What's important to you in a LS? Like... what are you looking for? I think that's probably the best way to get an idea of whether or not Michigan is a good fitguybourdin wrote:I'd really appreciate it. Re: Michigan Class of 2020
I'm looking for a job! lol. clinical opportunities and career support (in pi/govt) are the most important things for me i think. dog friendly also important (my life in Chicago, generally, is hyper dog friendly). right now my thoughts are: pi culture seems obviously significantly better at NU, but is the support that much better, are the clinics "better" (whateverthefuckthatmeans), how different is the lrap (M's seems better, but not significantly so, EXCEPT if I were to go into BL at all, idk), and is the culmination of those differences so great it is worth trying to move in a month (which means eating 2 months on my lease, quitting my job like next week, and just generally uprooting my life)?brinicolec wrote:What's important to you in a LS? I am sure, in a vacuum, I would pref Michigan. Don't live in a vacuum, though, so don't know where that puts me.

Re: Michigan Class of 2020
I actually added the Renegage to the list of cars I want to look at last night. I googled compact SUVs that are good for short drivers (I'm 5'2) and it popped up on one of the lists so I figured I'd at least check it out in person.Sarastro wrote: I've been enjoying my jeep renegade, but the aesthetic isn't for everyone from what I hear.
It's on the list but I'm planning to get a used car and that car is super popular (and therefore, not super available, and a little pricey for the budget my parents want to stay under).amberb94 wrote:My fiancé just got a Mazda CX 5 and it's great! Reasonably priced too. It's a lot of fun to drive.
Anyone familiar with the Subaru Forester? It came up on like every SUVs for short people list because it has so many windows. Apparently my dad likes it for me but I wasn't really impressed with the look of it. I want to sit in one anyway to see how it drives.
Yesterday I drove a Rav4 and I liked the way it drove but, I think because I'm so short and have to both raise the seat to be able to see over the hood AND move it forward quite a bit to be able to comfortably reach the pedals, I felt rather cramped in the driver's seat both arm- and knee-wise lol

Re: Michigan Class of 2020
Well... clinical opportunities-wise: Every Michigan student is guaranteed a clinic. It might not necessarily be your first choice clinic, but you're guaranteed a clinic. I believe NU's thing is like 90% do clinics, but I'm not sure if that means there are students who want clinics and don't get them. Michigan also has a clinic open to second semester 1Ls (their unemployment clinic). Places in walking distance from campus are less pet-friendly (the luxury apartments especially) but some of the houses are better when it comes to pet-friendliness. I think part of it has to do with the fact that the walking distance stuff is mostly undergrads and landlords don't trust them to have pets and keep things clean or something. But if you're willing to bus or drive, there are many options that allow pets. I think one of the sublet listings even mentioned that their apartment has a dog park. If you're looking for a luxury apartment that's in walking distance that allows pets, 618 South Main is a newer building... built in like 2015 I think... (and quite pricey -- and non-furnished) that allows pets. I'd imagine that since NU is generally a BL factory, the support at Michigan will be better because quite a few Michigan students are PI-focused but that's just a guess. I haven't looked at LRAP much because I decided awhile ago that I don't want to live off of a PD salary, even if debt can be forgiven lol. As far as uprooting your life goes, that's not something I can answer for you. As someone who's done plenty of uprooting throughout my life, I can tell you that you'll adjust. And I think that, being a summer starter, you'll adjust even faster because the group has a tendency to be VERY close-knit so you'll automatically have a group of people that you know and spend time with. As far as your rent goes... at least you'll be able to save money when you sublease over the summer? Lol.guybourdin wrote:I'm looking for a job! lol. clinical opportunities and career support (in pi/govt) are the most important things for me i think. dog friendly also important (my life in Chicago, generally, is hyper dog friendly). right now my thoughts are: pi culture seems obviously significantly better at NU, but is the support that much better, are the clinics "better" (whateverthefuckthatmeans), how different is the lrap (M's seems better, but not significantly so, EXCEPT if I were to go into BL at all, idk), and is the culmination of those differences so great it is worth trying to move in a month (which means eating 2 months on my lease, quitting my job like next week, and just generally uprooting my life)?brinicolec wrote:What's important to you in a LS?
