- Chemerinsky“Berkeley should aspire to be one of the top five law schools in the country, by any and every measure.”
I know he is setting high goals, as he should, and its not guaranteed they will be accomplished but its hard not to be excited about this news that he will be our new dean.

I'm so pumped. I'm excited for orientation and hearing how he will set out his vision for the law school. Such an exciting time to be a rising 1L at Boalt.dietcoke1 wrote:- Chemerinsky“Berkeley should aspire to be one of the top five law schools in the country, by any and every measure.”

Does anyone know what the "Housing and Food" allocation is for 2017-2018? It should be under the "My Finances" tab in CalCentral.

I successfully negotiated with Berkeley. I had a competing offer but the focus of my negotiation email was why Berkeley was such a good fit for me and how much I wanted to attend. The competing offer was more of a footnote. Feel free to PM me if you'd like to discuss in more detail.scoot456 wrote:*

I just got an email inviting me to apply for the pre-orientation program. Anyone interested in doing pre-orientation? I was hoping to get some input from a current student who has heard about the program being worthwhile or not.

Here's the response I got when I asked the same Q a couple years ago: http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... 4#p8635114
I didn't do it, and I can't think off the top of my head of anyone who did. What I've heard about it is that it's mildly useful, but not essential.

Thank you! I've been wondering this as well. I am not any of the things they list aside from first in my fam to attend law school, but it sounds like it might be helpful anyway. I might just apply and see if they have room.arose928 wrote:Here's the response I got when I asked the same Q a couple years ago: http://www.top-law-schools.com/forums/v ... 4#p8635114

Also, for one of your major doctrinal classes (like property, contracts, etc) each semester the class will have an ASP tutor that holds weekly sessions. The sessions are more about learning law school study skills - how to brief cases, what to take notes on, how to outline, etc - than they are about the substance of the class (although if you're having trouble with the class material the tutor can also help you out). From what I understand, the pre-orientation covers basically the same kind of stuff. So you can either get it upfront or get it as it comes up throughout the semester. To me I think it makes more sense to learn it as you need it (thinking about outlining at the beginning of the semester might be more confusing than helpful) but to each their own.
