I'm officially coming to ASW next weekend. I look forward to seeing some of you there (maybe).

Re: Michigan Class of 2020
Is there anyone ITT who was convinced to enroll after visiting for ASW last week. Or was it a nice weekend that has zero influence on your ultimate choice? I am curious to hear if ASWs are influential for people or if most of the matriculation decisions are made without consideration of ASW experiences.

absolutely convinced me to attend assuming the money makes sense for me. I could have very easily gone either way and ASW put it towards the top of my choices.BoyJord wrote:Is there anyone ITT who was convinced to enroll after visiting for ASW last week. Michigan sent me the nicest "nah" email today after my attempt. A little disappointed but still really love the school and have a good offer.BoyJord wrote:N.E.1 begin to negotiate yet/have success negotiating already?

Re: Michigan Class of 2020
Hey, hey. As the resident (previously) anti-AA person ITT, I'm here to tell you that Michigan's ASW absolutely, 10000% convinced me to attend when I had previously been like 95% certain I hated AA and no level of greatness of a school could make up for that. I was right that the greatness of the school didn't make up for it because... there are plenty of great schools but damn, does Michigan have some really great people. They make up for it. They're what won me over. 10/10 recommend ASW over visiting any other time (as someone who did both like two weeks apart lol) because yes, you can sit in on a class and maybe talk to a couple students who aren't too busy but like... the amount of students available to you during ASW is insane (in a good way) and you can tell they all just very genuinely enjoy being at Michigan and they don't take themselves too seriously all the time, which was a huge relief because I feel like some law students are "on" all the time and I can't live my life that way lol. PLUS, I think there's also something to be said about being able to meet your potential future classmates and figuring out how you gel with them.dietcoke1 wrote:absolutely convinced me to attend assuming the money makes sense for me. I was lucky enough to get a pretty generous offer from Michigan (esp compared to the sort of offers I got in the rest of the T13) so it wasn't all that hard to pull the trigger. Good luck with the $$$! I hope it works out for you and Michigan makes it rain so we can be summer starters together!

Re: Michigan Class of 2020
Well, NU was the last scholarship I was waiting on and it's nothing I can use to negotiate with. Still waiting for UVA and H to find my applications after ghosting me for 4 and 5 months respectively, so I'm not exactly expecting a full ride from either of them... That means my cycle is, for my purposes, FINALLY OVER!
Gonna deposit tonight and get the ball rolling. See you guys soon!

I didn't have any money from Michigan so I was waiting on NU before sending in a competing scholarship thing. I got 15k from NU... Not great, but better than nothing lol. Also have some pretty solid offers from UT and Georgetown that I'm hoping will be helpful.

Bri you made me so excited for ASW next weekend! I'm glad you've come to love it!!
After I visit, I feel like I'll be able to have some more certainty in my decision.

Anyone know the chances of negotiating Michigan up from 90k with a Harvard acceptance (and presumably no aid there)?

Re: Michigan Class of 2020
Y'all, I feel like this should go without saying since we're all future lawyers or whatever, but make sure you READ your LEASE! lol. The place I'm (hopefully) renting next year says cats are allowed on the website. I called to inquire whether or not ferrets would be fine prior to submitting my application and what not and was told yes, just pay the pet deposit. I get my lease, print it out to READ it, and it says pets are not allowed ??????
Maybe it was just a fumble on their part, but idk. Best believe I sent an email like "skrrrrrrrtttttttt this ain't what i was told!" in more proper terms, of course.

Can you please talk some sense into my SO? Exact same thing happened to her, but she was just like "Oh, well the landlord said I could, so it's ok. I trust him, he was really nice!"brinicolec wrote:Y'all, I feel like this should go without saying since we're all future lawyers or whatever, but make sure you READ your LEASE! lol. Re: Michigan Class of 2020
I mean, it was literally not a problem for me to have them fix my lease. But whatever's in the lease is essentially law so like........ if the landlord decides to be a dick about it and charge the "finding" fee, they totally can and the whole "Well they told me it was fine" won't hold up because it's like "... you signed a lease that said it's NOT fine."Sarastro wrote:Can you please talk some sense into my SO? No one has successfully negotiated up from a merit offer, right? Just making sure before initiating any other attempts.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
