I'm hoping by March I have most of my decisions in and I can start negotiating around

Right now, I've only begun negotiating with one school. It's my lowest choice, and a peer school gave me waaaay more $$, so I'm hoping to get them to up their offer, to then have their peer school up their offer. Oh financial aid... I hate this.

I'm trying to figure out how to negotiate when you have a better ranked school that gives you money, but not as much money.... Like.... how does that work? Does the fact that you got in there work as the negotiation tool or????

Depends on the relative tier of each school. But if the higher ranked one has noticeably better employment outcomes, prestige, etc, you can leverage that against the lower ranked one.brinicolec wrote:I'm trying to figure out how to negotiate when you have a better ranked school that gives you money, but not as much money.... Also, don't be afraid to include COL in your negotiations. Mention if going somewhere that gave less $$ has a lower COL. It makes a difference.Gitaroo_Dude wrote:Depends on the relative tier of each school. It's honestly the CoL that I think is making this school's debt so bad lol. I'd only be covering $30k in tuition (over three years) but the CoL in the area is HIGH so I'd probably end up taking out like $100-$120k in loansS.Picquery wrote:Also, don't be afraid to include COL in your negotiations. If I could keep my loans under $100k, that'd make me happy. Even though that's still kinda up there lol

They're all within T20. The school I'd like to try to negotiate more money from seems to be getting better employment numbers the past couple of years (I think they also cut their class size which I'm sure helps with that) & gave me a pretty solid scholly already (over 3/4 of tuition/yr).Gitaroo_Dude wrote:Depends on the relative tier of each school. I don't even know where to start with my scholarship negotiations. My only T14 scholarship offer is at Michigan right now, but I don't think that will work very well for negotiating with CLS. I think I have to wait to see if I am admitted to NYU/Harvard.

I think most people are waiting to commit to a school before this thread lights up. Are you settled on S?katthegreat11 wrote:This thread so dead y'all.

Yeah. I can liven this thread up with my neurotic thoughts on which law school to attend but.. That's not the kind of activity this thread needsdietcoke1 wrote:I think most people are waiting to commit to a school before this thread lights up. Not 100% until I get my financial aid from them, but basically yes.dietcoke1 wrote:I think most people are waiting to commit to a school before this thread lights up. Are you settled on S?katthegreat11 wrote:This thread so dead y'all.

So am I right to assume most people haven't decided on a school yet and that's why this thread isn't lit?

Also almost committed to a school, but waiting to see if I have better leverage for negotiating before I can deposit.

Yeah...we're definitely less Shit-posty than previous cycles. Unless we're talking about food. Shit goes down in food debates.R. Jeeves wrote:i think tls c/o 2020 might just be a boring batch. even amta couldnt get us to produce.
Also, at this point I'm generally inclined to take my comments to the applicants thread (until I fully commit to a school).

Re: Down the rabbit h0Le - [TLS C/O 2020 Thread]
Now that I'm reconsidering Michigan, assuming I can get some scholarship money through negotiating, I'll probably head there (unless NU accepts me sometime this century, then I'll have to weigh those two options)Lawschool305 wrote:Also almost committed to a school, but waiting to see if I have better leverage for negotiating before I can deposit.

Got a Duke Scholly letter in the mail. If it's good I'll probably stop watching checkers (If a meteor strikes and I get into Harvard/big time scholly at NYU then maybe I'd have to think about it, but I'll let those come in due time).

I'm like 95% decided on UVA unless Penn, Columbia, or NYU throw a wrench in that decision (unlikely), but it seems like most of TLS hasn't decided yet.

95% Northwestern. Want to stay in Chicago.
That said, waiting on HYS, NYU & Penn; waitlisted @ C; Dinged @ UChi; In @ GTown, UVA, Michigan.
Besides HYS, it seems hard to justify not going to Northwestern. Thoughts, anyone?
