I have a dog!
I have 2 cats that I really want to bring with me to LS. I need their cute furry faces to get me through 1L
I have a ferret. And yeah. He helps me with anxiety/stress because I got him when he was young so he cuddles with me.
This is all encouraging me to get a furry friend.

Also: has anyone accepted on 1/31 or later received their acceptance package?

Also nope. Don't remember when I was accepted but it was one of the first waves, probably before 1/31

I set up to get alerts whenever I get packages and I got one saying northwestern sent me something but I hadn't received it before Wednesday. Going home today so maybe it'll be there

Question, how does the JD/MBA program work at NU? I didn't apply, but I think you can apply during 1L year. Do you end up paying full sticker for the MBA simultaneously with JD tuition or is it discounted together for joint degrees?

Here you go:
http://www.kellogg.northwestern.edu/pro ... l-aid.aspx

From what I've gathered, Kellogg doesn't give out scholly to JD-MBA students. Your scholarship amount will be the one you receive from law school.

Any neighborhood that you are going to realistically choose to live in will be plenty safe. The dangerous pockets in Chicago are few and are primarily on the West and South end, far away from the law school to a point that you wouldn't be living there.

Do you guys think a place that allows cat and/or dogs would allow ferrets? Lol.

Also, for anyone who may have any questions about neighborhoods (or anything really) in Chicago: I've been asking the Chicago reddit folks for opinions on different neighborhoods and people are responsive/actually helpful.

My sister's office mate went to northwestern law and she highly suggested River North and Streeterville. She said that pricing and location were best! She had a studio apartment in a super safe building. I'll try to get the name of it for you.

Edit: I'll also look into Reddit

Kinda wish in my merit aid essay I had expressed my desire to be the next Jerry Springer....

If anyone wants to split a two bedroom in Gold Coast, Streeterville, or River North, send me a pm. I went to the U of C for undergrad so i'm pretty familiar with the area. Also, I'd like to save money and avoid the studio. I'm male btw.

Hello future Pritzkerites (Pritzkerians? Not sure we ever decided)! I'm a current student at NU law; I saw this thread while reading through TLS in class and thought I'd chime in for anyone looking at neighborhoods. I highly recommend Lakeview! It's just the best neighborhood. Tons of great food, bars, parks, and whatever else you could want really close by. Depending on where in the neighborhood you land, it's generally affordable, and a convenient ~30 min commute to school by either the red line or express buses. Sort of inconvenient if you plan on doing bar review a bunch--only 1 or 2 a year are in Lakeview and most seem to be in River North--but don't choose where to live based on bar review.

Just north of Lakeview is Uptown, parts of which are really nice and parts of which are areas you probably don't want to walk around alone at night. Which part you're in will be really obvious. The commute from Uptown can start to get too long for most people's taste, though.

As for other neighborhoods, Streeterville (right around the school) sucks a lot if you plan on eating food, going out at all, or doing anything not related to law school. I can't stress enough how much the neighborhood our school is in sucks. Seriously, unless walking to school and being around your younger classmates 24/7 is that important to you, do not live here.

River North is too expensive and you won't be able to enjoy the nightlife that much while you're in law school anyway. Go there for an occasional night out; don't live there.

Gold Coast is a nice happy medium, although still pretty pricey.

Also don't sleep on Ukrainian Village! Fantastic neighborhood, plenty to do, and close enough to school that the commute isn't a pain.

Anyway, feel free to pm me. Good luck getting here and enjoy your last summer of freedom!

Long time TLS lurker, longer time Chicagoan. I agree with what the poster above me wrote and am also happy to provide input.

Prior to making the leap to law school, I worked (and currently work) as a full-time realtor in Chicago. Not sure if this is appropriate for TLS, but if anyone wants suggestions, advice or... a realtor... feel free to PM me. (As per utilizing any realtor), it's a free service for y'all.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
Just kidding ... it's still FREE!
