Re: UChicago Class of 2020
I'm not planning on starting until summer. Not sure if I want to live in Regents/Shoreland/etc. or a smaller apartment in the area, but based on experiences I've read on here, July is a good time to find good options. Just planning on taking a two day trip then to check some out.poptart123 wrote:How is the apartment hunt coming for everybody? You all start yet?

Re: UChicago Class of 2020
Housing turns over typically in June or September, so since I won't be home over the summer I will probably start looking with my roommate in August/late july at the earliest.poptart123 wrote:How is the apartment hunt coming for everybody? You all start yet?

I want to start a least on Sept. 1st, I've been keeping an eye on prices on Craigslist/Zillow but I prob won't apply for anything till August.azaleafire wrote:Housing turns over typically in June or September, so since I won't be home over the summer I will probably start looking with my roommate in August/late july at the earliest.poptart123 wrote:How is the apartment hunt coming for everybody? Re: UChicago Class of 2020
Congrats and welcome to the fam to everyone who committed in the last few days! We're excited to have you join our weird little community.
Two notes on this stage of your lives:
1) Figure out how to be content and happy in your current state of being. I think one thing that gets a lot of people down is the tendency to look ahead to the next milestone. "I'll be happy and relaxed after LSAT -> LORs -> hearing back from schools -> scholarship negotiation -> finding housing -> quitting my job -> the myriad challenges of fall quarter -> getting a summer job -> networking -> journal -> OCI -> clerkships -> ... " There's always anther milestone behind the next one. Stop thinking your life will get better and start making your life work right now. I wish someone had told me that earlier. (You don't have that excuse now, HAH.)
2) Less depressingly, if anyone wants $100 off a month's rent (I'll get the same!) and ends up leasing with MAC, I'd love to refer you. Just shoot me a message and we'll figure it out!

So this morning I got an email telling me UChicago was offering me a scholarship covering all of tuition, $190,000. Up from my negotiated offer of $75,000, totally out of the blue. Don't mean to boast, I'm just so floored I wanted to tell people.

Gosh I'm so jelly. Really wishing I hadn't withdrawn after their first insultingly low offerLikelyThrowaway wrote:So this morning I got an email telling me UChicago was offering me a scholarship covering all of tuition, $190,000. they ended up bumping me to 30k but i think it's cause i was able to make it compelling that i would go to usc (for literally 10x the money haha) if they didn't. i actually ended up asking if they would be open to negotiation after the deposit deadline as well but never got a response (which idk im kinda happy about cause it's not a no)gargleblaster wrote:Mind if I ask how much u got eventually?lawlzschool wrote:woo thank the lord they upped mine

Re: UChicago Class of 2020
so, where are you all living this fall? Regents? Shoreland? Algonquin? Did you find a roommate?
Algonquin is the least expensive but it looks like it's not 1L's favorite. any thoughts?

Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
