Next Wednesday is my last day of work. Then I'm hopping onto the plane to Europe on Thursday for a two week trip before I sign my life away to LS. Last bit of bliss before I jump into gloom reality that is 1L.

Cool! Which part? This will be my first time in Europe so I'm following all the typical tourist trap spots for sightseeing. London, Paris, Rome and Barcelona. I'm preparing my gears cuz I was told that Europe trip = walking for miles.. and miles... and miles.Pinkpanda24 wrote:Me too! Awesome!! I'll be going to London, Reykjavik, and Barcelona. You're definitely right about the walking lol but it'll be worth it!CPAlawHopefu wrote:Cool! Which part? Re: University of Illinois Class of 2020
Savoy is essentially just south Champaign (seriously, when the leasing agent was driving me to the apartment complex I thought she was taking me to the other one she was going to show me that was actually in Champaign...I'd assumed based on the map that it was legit a separate town but it's not) so it's not that far!Pinkpanda24 wrote:That's interesting. I didn't have to prove my own things but since I'm a student I was required to have a co-signer. I think they had my dad prove his income.Watababe wrote:Ah that's good to know. When I was in college we had to at least prove we were students when signing the lease (and now in "the real world' I had to prove income and all that jazz) so it was a bit of a shock that they just like...took my word for it?ChambanaMan wrote:Watababe wrote:They were almost uncomfortably easy to work with??? They didn't ask for proof of anything. Like they have you fill out a general application before viewing apartments and that's considered good enough. IDK if it's because I have a really great credit score right now (RIP to that soon thanks law school) and a clean background check but they didn't ask for proof of employment, proof that I'm going to be a student, proof of financial aid, anything!carasrook wrote:congrats! i've heard really good things about royse & brinkmeyerWatababe wrote:Finally signed a lease! I'll be at Prospect Pointe in Savoy!!
That's just the Champaign student housing market. I work for an American Campus property, and we don't check credit, student status, financials, or anything. And I don't know of another company that does. The competition among properties is huge, so any signature on that lease is all they care about.
It seems like most of you guys are in Savoy...hopefully I'm not forever alone in Urbana lol. I had a hard time finding a place that would let me rent with two cats in a one bedroom.

My last work day is July 13th and I think it works out to about 15 work days left now...I haven't worked a full week since the week before Memorial Day and won't work one through the rest of my time...no crazy travels planned for me but hopefully some beach time and some last museum visits while it's still easy, then getting to know the Chambana area.

IDK if I'm late to the party on this but there's orientation info up on the website http://illinois.edu/calendar/detail/5746/33271550
Also an agenda and FYI the Wednesday of orientation has a business dress code and Thursday is business casual: http://illinois.edu/cms/6647/agenda_-_website.pdf

That's probably a good guess, though it could be argued it doesn't have to be (In my mind, "Business" falls somewhere between "Professional" and "Business Casual" mainly because something needs to fill the gap for dudes between wearing a suit and wearing a polo shirt and khakis and the gap for women between a suit and black skinny pants with a nice top) and I kinda hope as we get a bit closer they spell out what they want but you'll see me in a professional dress with a suit jacket at minimum.carasrook wrote:I saw! I feel like the word "an" implies this is NOT the time to "go big or go home" which is honestly unfortunate because how else am I supposed to learn the true personalities of potential future friendscarasrook wrote:"please wear an item reflecting your hometown, undergraduate institution, favorite sports team, or band!"law444 wrote:Looks like there is going to be a casual reception the day before orientation starts too. Business Casual: No tie. Suit or Sweater optional. Jeans are ok if you wear a blazer.

Hmm, I have to disagree on your business casual interpretation. I work at a law firm and our attire is 'business casual'. jeans are definitely not allowedCPAlawHopefu wrote:Business: Suit and Tiecarasrook wrote:I saw! I agree. Jeans with a blazer falls more under "Smart Casual" to me (my company used to be business casual with casual Fridays and Fridays were the only day jeans were allowed...now we're in the smart casual/casual range like don't wear a graphic tee but don't worry about needing to dress up your outfit since you're wearing jeans)carasrook wrote:Hmm, I have to disagree on your business casual interpretation. How does everyone feel about supplements? I'm really apprehensive to buy them before school starts, and I REALLY don't want to have to use them...

I've seen a few things floating around that say to hold off on buying them because essentially those should be something you turn to after you've already read through things a couple times and have spoken with your prof and still just don't get it UNLESS a prof flat out says like "X supplement is my favorite" because I've heard of profs taking test questions almost directly from supplements they mention being huge fans ofcarasrook wrote:How does everyone feel about supplements? Do any of the current students that float around on this thread have any tips/advice?

I'd wait about a month or so to see if you understand what's going on. If not, check the reference section in the library first-there's a bunch of supps, but you may have some difficulty finding them during finals. I used supps my first semester, and then barely, if at all, after that.Watababe wrote:I've seen a few things floating around that say to hold off on buying them because essentially those should be something you turn to after you've already read through things a couple times and have spoken with your prof and still just don't get it UNLESS a prof flat out says like "X supplement is my favorite" because I've heard of profs taking test questions almost directly from supplements they mention being huge fans ofcarasrook wrote:How does everyone feel about supplements? Did y'all see in the most recent "Admitted Student News" that there's a pre-orientation happy hour on August 17th? Is everyone going to be in town by then? I know some of you signed leases that start later in the month because you are stronger people than me (been there done that on the whole "move in just before starting school/new job" thing and it is Not For Me.)
