Toured Foundry Lofts. Touring another luxury apartment tomorrow. Didn't take a lot of pictures, but have a few. Also can tell anyone interested about the amenities or whatever else.

I shot them an email and then called them up. I didn't go to ASW, but I don't think it would hurt to try and schedule an appointment with them to talk about your needs. Otherwise, email and telephone worked for me.

I'm 90% sure my fiancé and I will be at Michigan in the fall. He got into the MPP program but with no merit aid. I got 75k. So we will be very in debt in a few years. However, we accumulated no debt in undergrad. Worth it? Please say it's worth it.

I'm no help on the SO's program/debt for that, but I also didn't accumulate debt in undergrad (woo). it definitely made my decision to take on law school debt much easier.

Re: Michigan Class of 2020
Can someone tell me how summer starters are able to save 10k? It is a huge amount for me, so sorry for making it huge font size...
As far as I understand, summer starters pay the middle 5 semesters exactly the same as others (the 5 semesters that spend with fall starters), so the only difference is you pay 0L tuition for your first semester while others pay 3L tuition for their last semester.
Since the tuition for one semester is roughly 28,000, if we are assuming the tuition goes up 5% every year, so difference between one semester of 0L tuition and 3L tuition would be: 28k*5%*1.05*1.05=1.5k right? Even if we factor in inflation in COL and maybe interest rates, I am still confused about how this is able to save 10K over three years. Am I getting something wrong?
Thanks for everyone who clarifies for me!

I'm not sure exactly where they get that figure, but I saved an ASS LOAD on housing over the summer. Everyone needs subletters, so I got a 2br with all utilities included, cable, wifi, & a covered parking space for only $500/month, and I could walk to school in ~15 mins. Plus the semester was only 2 months, so instead of paying 3-5 months' rent for a semester, I only paid a very discounted 2 months. Perhaps that's some of the savings?pipipipi wrote:Can someone tell me how summer starters are able to save 10k? It is a huge amount for me, so sorry for making it huge font size...

Well to see the difference in cost of that one semester you'd need to do (28k*1.05*1.05) - 28k = $2,870. Then take into account the extra savings mentioned above, and then take into account the compounding interest you would have otherwise on those extra savings for a 10-year repayment plan. I don't know about 10k, but I could see how you could theoretically get close to that calculation.Toodle-loo wrote:I'm not sure exactly where they get that figure, but I saved an ASS LOAD on housing over the summer. Thanks for the correction. Some how I was calculating the difference between 3L semester and 2L semester, instead of that between OL and 3L, stupid me.twochipmunks wrote:Well to see the difference in cost of that one semester you'd need to do (28k*1.05*1.05) - 28k = $2,870. Since we benefit from a 0L tuition, the 3L tuition semester we don't have to pay is 28k*1.05^3 right? (not it mattered, it is $3,240 if that is the case. I am just "amazed" my stupidness in my previous calculation, thanks for making it a lot easier to understand!)

Re: Michigan Class of 2020
It'll go up twice from whatever the cost of the first semester is. If 28k represents first semester's tuition, it'll be 1.05^2. But I don't believe they've set next year's tuition yet; but the difference between 1L and 3L will be about the same regardless.pipipipi wrote:Thanks for the correction. I thought summer starters paytwochipmunks wrote:[
0L: 2016-2017 tuition for the first semester,

1L: 2017-2018

thus the tuition increased three times from 2016-2017 standard to 2019-2020 tuition?

Re: Michigan Class of 2020
According to the admitted students site, tuition for summer is set in March 2017 at the same time as tuition for the rest of 17-18. So that should be happening this week.pipipipi wrote:I thought summer starters paytwochipmunks wrote:[

Haha, I felt like I was meeting so many people that I doubt I'll even remember anyone's names next time around. My roommate never showed back up last night and hadn't returned as of 11:30 this morning. I just assume he succeeded where I'd failed last evening, but who knows.brinicolec wrote:Wtf. Definitely agree with this.
