For those reverse splitters out there that have received merit scholarships already, would you mind PMing me what you got?

I've heard that schools will extend that deadline if you just email them and ask.JuliusCaesar wrote:Well that completely stinks. One of the schools I'm strongly considering has an April 1st initial deposit deadline...HangingAround wrote:They don't do scholarship reconsideration until April 1st

Got my scholarship today: not what I was hoping for but definitely what I expected considering the rise of applicants this cycle.

Emailed them my reconsideration request and they responded politely that you get one chance at it and they'll begin considering them April 1st.HALT_REPTAR wrote:Where did you see that? In the past, Cornell had a brunch on Saturday of ASD. Does anyone know if there is anything on Saturday this year or is it just Friday?

im sure this has been asked in the past, but how common is it to bring guests to ASD? or, for CEHS people, are you planning on bringing a guest to dinner?

Re: Cornell Law Class of 2019
Depends on who the guest is and which events you bring them to. A S/O shouldn't be a problem for any event. And although I don't exactly encourage it, it's not "uncommon" for people to bring parents. Usually there's at least one family in each of my tour groups.chrisharrison wrote:im sure this has been asked in the past, but how common is it to bring guests to ASD? or, for CEHS people, are you planning on bringing a guest to dinner?
Doesn't seem like there will be one. But you won't be missing much if there isn't one.Bouvant wrote:In the past, Cornell had a brunch on Saturday of ASD. Does anyone know if there is anything on Saturday this year or is it just Friday?

Why wouldn't you "encourage" it? I'm coming straight out of undergrad, so I understand I'm going to be one of the youngest people in my class and having my parents hanging around isn't exactly going to help me look any older, but they genuinely want to see the campus and look at potential housing options. Is there something I'm missing or is that your only reservation?Lavitz wrote:Depends on who the guest is and which events you bring them to. A S/O shouldn't be a problem for any event. There are some people who judge others for bringing their parents. You can see evidence of this in several threads on TLS. See, e.g., http://top-law-schools.com/forums/viewt ... 8&t=205439 . However, it will probably only be a few people, and even they will likely forget who you are by the time you come back in August. I think it's fine if you do it for the reasons you listed, as long as they don't, like, do all the talking for you or something like that.JohnDoe007 wrote:Why wouldn't you "encourage" it? ETA: After re-reading that thread, I remember that bringing parents can prevent you from getting to know other prospective students if you feel compelled to hang out with your parents the whole time. And it was pretty awkward at Casino Night where everyone was drinking and then some people's parents were standing there judging us. Again, use your best judgment regarding which events are appropriate to bring your parents to.

Wow, severely underestimated how seriously people take this topic. Definitely agree they shouldn't come to every event. I think it depends on the person. I was pretty independent throughout undergrad so I would have never brought my parents to something like this, but definitely could have seen some of my peers bring parents. So I think its more acceptable for K-JDs. Especially if they'll be paying. However as a 24 year old who would be funding himself old and after living in the real world for 2 years, I would think it would be really weird for someone in the same position as me to bring their parents.JohnDoe007 wrote:Wow, severely underestimated how seriously people take this topic. Checking in, plus going to the admitted student day. Is anyone who'll have a car interested in a carpool sort of arrangement? Not sure how necessary it will be, but it could make getting to the campus in the morning a bit easier.
Also, have to admit, I'm a bit bummed about that "moral obligation" line in the scholarship letter. I didn't think that was part of a "scholarship" . . .

Headed to the April ASD. Magically found a flight into Ithaca but does anyone have recommendations for hotels? The one's closest to campus with shuttles to campus (and the on campus hotel) are books for the days of the event

Checking in! So I submitted the scholarship form and indicated that I would like to be considered for both need and merit aid. I will be getting all of the tax forms and needaccess in tomorrow, but they have already offered me a scholarship package.
I guess my question is, is it possible that they could increase my aid after reviewing my need forms because presumably the current offer is merit only?

A house on the 120 block of Columbia Street. Apparently there's a bus stop nearby, but it would be good to hear from anyone who's been to Ithaca before whether that would be a reliable way to get to campus.hopefuljumbo23 wrote:Where are you trying to carpool from?Califbess wrote:Checking in, plus going to the admitted student day. The hotels were so overpriced I went with an Airbnb too. And it took about two weeks for me to hear back about the travel subsidy, but I submitted a request in January. They're probably way busier now.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
