So the parking issue was also covered up by the mention of the bus routes, which have a stop right in front of the law school. So thats probably why it wasnt too heavily pressed except for in one on one situations. You might be better off asking the question about the garage in the taking questions thread and quote one of the current students to get their attention (or you can do it in here and quote split/serett). As for closest gym, you should have gotten a campus walking tour map in your packet at asw. Its like a 5-10 minute walk south(east) of the law school, right on the other side of cameron indoor.vested wrote:I didn't catch wind of the parking issue at ASW, but does anyone know if the garage they are building next to the business school will be available for law student parking? Also, does anyone know the closest gym open to (non-athlete) students?

I also sent an email on Sunday and on Monday, they reached out and told me thanks for writing and that they will get back to me shortly.IcarusOnWheels wrote:YepApplesauce11 wrote:Huh, I haven't received a confirmation email. I sent an email also, was asked to send an email at the end of the month. I sent a follow up with an additional offer. They sent a confirmation email but I haven't heard anything since.

+1. Took a day from initial e-mail to the "thanks for writing, we'll get back to you soon" reply.madoodle16 wrote:I also sent an email on Sunday and on Monday, they reached out and told me thanks for writing and that they will get back to me shortly.IcarusOnWheels wrote:YepApplesauce11 wrote:Huh, I haven't received a confirmation email. Duke is a strong contender for me. Anyone know when the roommate search usually commences? (I.e. Google doc, fb group)

There is a facebook group, on it there has been posted a googlesheet with roommate search. Have you not received an invite to the group?coffee247 wrote:Duke is a strong contender for me. Anyone know when the roommate search usually commences? (I.e. Google doc, fb group)

The committee has started responding to scholarship emails. I sent them copies of offers from other peer law schools and they were gracious enough to negotiate. Very pleased

To my knowledge, they haven't actually told us how many of us (and which years) might have access to the new parking garage, but there's a loose allusion to it including law and business school students here. Of course, that also indicates there's currently a 2200-person waiting list, so it's anyone guess if it'll even help alleviate overall congestion and overselling of the currently available lots, regardless of whether law students can park there. I've made a few previous posts on parking:lymenheimer wrote:So the parking issue was also covered up by the mention of the bus routes, which have a stop right in front of the law school. My tl;dr on it (though I recommend reading these posts if you do end up coming here) is, at least as a 1L and maybe as a 2L (I can't comment on the Chem Lot situation available to 3Ls and 2Ls who do LEAD), there's always somewhere for you to park without having to pay extra or get a ticket. But it might be far away (lots on Duke University Road), and if you plan to triage between the lots instead of just going to the farthest ones, you should plan extra time to arrive until you know which ones fill up by which times. This is true both at normal times and during sports events, when parking is even more irritating but when, as always, there is somewhere for you to park without having to pay extra or get a ticket. In that case, it's just going to be either a lot across from the Chem Lot (actually closer than most if not all of the Green Zone) or a parking garage quite far away near the medical/science buildings. This is far more annoying than being able to park, say, right next to the school, but it's not as annoying as people say when they pretend that there is truly nowhere to park.
And re: the gym, yeah, it's at most a five minute walk. Across the street, past Sanford, and through a small parking lot, right next to Cameron and Wallace Wade. It's about as close as one could reasonably hope.

Reading through the thread, I see that I send the email to the financial aid office and obviously I'll include other offers, but am I expected to write a brief why Duke again too? It just feels strange sending an email saying "Hi, School X gave me this much, so give me more money please and thank you." Sorry if this has been gone over somewhere else, I just looked through this and the Class of 2018 thread and didn't see anyone talking about what exactly they were saying in the email.

a bunch of tips and how tos in those threads. You don't want to give them a 4 page email requesting a scholarship bump, but justification is a useful tool.

So are you one of the option 1 in the poll? (Trying to make sure we have everyone accounted for. Re: Duke Law Class of 2019
I have and, through fear of outing myself (more than I already have), it was not very favorable. I sent my request a bit prior to the suggested date, due to deadlines that were coming before their suggested timeline. I received my response after those deadlines passed, so I have a suspicion that the transparency on my end and the timing resulted in the response I received.IcarusOnWheels wrote:Has anyone heard back from scholarship negotiation yet (other than the lucky individual above )
