Can I just say how super impressed I am that H offers institutional loans in place of federal loans for international students? Seriously, bless them

ETA: ok I spoke too soon, I finally got the packet in the mail and it's just... whoa. It's just as dazzling as everyone said it would be!

yeah that and the fact that the harvard credit union will loan you enough money to attend instead of having to get loans in Canada (has been tough) and then exchange them into USD.

Still waiting for my admission packet… but in the meantime I thought I would ask a rather un-exciting question. Has anyone looked into the health insurance options we get from Harvard as a student? I've done a bit of digging myself but I was wondering if anyone had a strong opinion. International student here, so I don't have a parent with a US plan I can stay on.

Hi guys, I have a question: When you submit those online SFS forms, do you get notification of receipt? I submitted the application for CGS funds yesterday and got no response. Earlier today I submitted the Ethical Responsibility Web Form and got no response again. Making it worse, the MyHLS Financial Website says "Not Received." Can someone please shed light on this? I've been bombarding SFS with emails and figured maybe I should try to find it out here (hopefully) before sending another email to them. Many thanks in advance!

It'll take a business day or two to update. If you haven't noticed anything by next Wednesday, ping them.

Hey all, sorry if this has already been discussed, but does anyone know which ASW events are registered guest-friendly and which ones definitely are not? Trying to map out the first ASW weekend for my SO. He's fine chilling in a coffee shop and exploring Cambridge for a while, but it would be nice to know how much time he has to fill.

Guessing that things like campus tours/informal dinner are guest friendly (since they asked for guest food needs) but shooting in the dark here. Unless this stuff is clear on the ASW itinerary and I just can't read.

I'd love to know this as well. My fiancee will be joining me and while she's happy to spend some time exploring the city and checking out potential apartments, that's not going to cut it for the whole weekend.

Same situation here.
My understanding is that most of the activities are SO friendly except for the class visits.

I guess there might be some others, but there is also the opportunity for SOs to get to know each other, right?

Does anyone know much about the COGS scholarships?? I'm eligible for the James A. Rumrill Scholarship but have no idea how much it is and I can't find any information online except for the 1916 official college handbook saying it was for $225. Just wanting to get a better feel for what it could be/if it could be a legit scholarship or more of a stipend type thing.

I'm eligible for the Rumrill, too. According to the Crimson, they awarded about $500 per student in 1932, which is about $8,000 today: http://www.thecrimson.com/article/1932/ ... -year-men/. $225 in 1916 dollars is about $5,000 today.

So I'm guessing we're looking a meaningful, but small, stipend.

You should be emailed a separate application soon after you submit your initial financial aid form. It'll ask you a bunch of demographic information to see if you're eligible for any of these scholarships.

I haven't submitted any aid and was actually emailed about it... then I just checked that I was eligible and for this particular one I didn't have to submit anything else. V simple.

Does anyone know which day our orientation starts? I'm trying to figure out which day should be my last day at work, so I need to plan out my schedule!

Are there accounts online of Harvard's admitted student weekend? Just want to know what to expect lol.

Also, the financial aid process seems a little convoluted... Just submitted the pre-application (?) today. Hoping to hear from them soon.

It'll be the last week of August - the exact day hasn't been announced yet.

Once you submit the pre-app, click on the Documents tab in SFS site. That will have a few additional forms to fill out based on what you said in your pre-app.

I submitted my pre-app, was logged out, but upon logging back in, no Documents tab appeared. Has this happened to anyone else, and does it mean my pre-app didn't submit properly?

I would just call SFS. They have been very helpful with all of my questions.

I'm guessing August 25th will be the start date based on previous years.
