I plan to, but haven't yet. I'm still waiting on 2 schools for money information and I'm not positive if it's a good idea to try with the offer I already have from a peer school or if I should wait till I hear from the other 2 peer schoolsDexter97 wrote:Any successful negotiations yet? I haven't started actual negotiation but I spoke to the financial aid office and they advised to wait until all the offers are in because they will only review competing offers onceherecomesthesun wrote:I plan to, but haven't yet. That's sort of what I was thinking--I'm planning to have a financial aid appointment when I go to ASW at the end of March. I'm aware I'll likely need loans unless I get a crazy substantial increase, and even then, I'll probably need a budget increase because I have medical expenses.jumbo2016 wrote:I haven't started actual negotiation but I spoke to the financial aid office and they advised to wait until all the offers are in because they will only review competing offers onceherecomesthesun wrote:I plan to, but haven't yet. I would not send an email/letter to the dean....I am sure she has better things to do than sift through a thousand thank you notes.greenapples wrote:Hello!! I was accepted few weeks back, and I'm increasigly setting my heart on Michigan. Everybody seems so nice!
That being said, did you all send a thank you/ recognition or any email to the dean after receiving the congrats email?
I havent received any info about possible aid or schoarship. Planning on sending app for the lawyers club residency tonight.
Thanks!!
Also, I believe at this point in the cycle merit aid is given within 15 days of acceptance. If it has been longer than that, it may be an indication you did not receive any.

New admit signing in
Interesting to receive the notification email this morning, considering I only submitted the application in early Feb. Having my fingers crossed for the financial aid package (if any).

Any non-Darrow admit has requested travel subsidy for ASWs?

No, I think the extent of Michigan's subsidy are the discounted hotel rooms.ycai wrote:Not yet. Is such subsidy a thing?strawberrieee wrote:Any non-Darrow admit has requested travel subsidy for ASWs?

Their website doesn't mention travel subsidies, but they also do not explicitly say something like we don't subsidize travel expenses. That's why I asked if any of you tried emailing them and successfully got travel stipends. Maybe they approve it on a case by case basis idkycai wrote:That's what I thought.James.K.Polk wrote:No, I think the extent of Michigan's subsidy are the discounted hotel rooms.ycai wrote:Not yet. True that. Never hurt to ask. Even in cases where a policy is written in express language, exceptions have also been made (though probly not publicized.)strawberrieee wrote:Their website doesn't mention travel subsidies, but they also do not explicitly say something like we don't subsidize travel expenses. Re: Michigan Law School C/O 2019
I can vouch for this. The Law School offers heavily subsidized hotel accomodations ($20/night or about 85% off) for anyone that bothers to come. I myself dropped $400 on a round-trip flight to get there, but since I have already deposited, it wasn't so bad for me given that I am not attending such an event for any other school. I looked into options for a travel subsidy, but I was unable to find anything about it. Regardless, I hope to see some of you there!James.K.Polk wrote:No, I think the extent of Michigan's subsidy are the discounted hotel rooms.ycai wrote:Not yet. I sent a thank you, as I did to many of the schools I was accepted to. Not everyone responded, but it felt rude to just let it go unnoticed.greenapples wrote:Aw man, that's sadWaitersIsland wrote:I would not send an email/letter to the dean....I am sure she has better things to do than sift through a thousand thank you notes.greenapples wrote:Hello!! Thanks for your input! I was sending back-and-forth emails with the dean for other school I've been accepted at, and Michigan dean's emails were all so personal it really made me want to reply back hahabut will do. ill just sit tight.

Also checking in! Penn's finaid (or lack of it) has pretty much decided it for me.
I'll be moving to A2 with a spouse and pets, so I've been looking at off-campus apartments. Does anyone know if these apartment complexes are good?
Valley Ranch
Woodbury Gardens
Lake Village
Thanks!

Another PSA for Preview Weekend on the 17-19. I rented a car for a few days and if anyone else is interested in hitching a ride to/from the airport for a couple bucks, PM me. Looking forward to meeting a bunch of you there!

Received my merit award from UM today, and this is likely where I will end up. Unfortunately, I am not sure if I will be able to make either of the ASWs (I know I will not be able to make the 2nd). Has anyone scheduled/completed a visit on their own?

I'm visiting on my own in a few weeks. I'm sitting in on a class, touring campus, and have an an appointment with one of the assistant directors of admissions. They don't offer any stipends, but I have a friend to stay with so I wasn't as concerned.WaitersIsland wrote:Received my merit award from UM today, and this is likely where I will end up. Re: Michigan Law School C/O 2019
Hi all!
MLaw student here. I love MLaw! Anyway, a Facebook page was made for you all today: "Michigan Law Class of 2019."
Re someone asking about Woodbury Gardens earlier, I lived there for a bit: very suitable, a bus runs straight from there to the law school. It was mostly on time:) (And Ann Arbor transit buses are free with your MCard.)
Lastly, the 2BR-apartment building I live in is a 7 min walk from the law school, and has long had law students living there. Landlord is looking for 1 (or 2) law students (summer starters) to sublet an apartment in the summer and then take over the lease! Great landlord! Heating costs included in rent. Off street parking spot available! Coin laundry in building. AND the rent is $550/mo for each person! Super great price for the location. PM me if interested and for pics. Happy to have people look during Preview.

I'm also visiting on my own later this month; even though the hotels aren't as cheap as they would be for ASW, there are (judging by internet reviews) good hotels for about 60 bucks. Doing a class visit and tour, and hopefully some apartment hunting!zyxwvut2 wrote:I'm visiting on my own in a few weeks.
