Thanks! I think it went well, though I'm pretty sure those things either work against you because you screw up royally or they don't make any difference whatsoever.SlithyTove wrote:Good luck on the interview!capricasixx wrote:Oh man House of Cards is up today?! I think it's just to make sure you're not completely socially inept or a total dickbag or have some other major character flaw that you could have edited out of all your essays but might not be able to hide in a live conversation. So you're probably right. As long as you didn't start crying or refuse to answer, it probably doesn't make any difference. Either way I'd say you deserve a drink.capricasixx wrote:Thanks! I have an unrealistic list for 2016 of 60+ books for personal enjoyment and 0L prep.. My goal is to read 2 per month tho, definitely not to finish the list. Highlights/stuff I might actually get to in the next 5ish months:Harry_Pluxen wrote:What books are people planning to read this summer before law school starts?
- Notorious RBG
- Getting to Maybe
- Maybe an E&E book just for shits and giggles.. Constitutional Law perhaps
- An Introduction to Legal Reasoning by Edward H. Levi
- The Eight Secrets of Top Exam Performance in Law School
- A Brief History of Seven Killings: A Novel
- The Declaration of Independence and the United States Constitution (Penguin Civic Classics)
- Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates
- What Is Not Yours Is Not Yours by Helen Oyeyemi
- The Queen of the Night by Alexander Chee
Currently reading My Japanese Lover by Isabel Allende & just got a copy of The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing.. I keep hearing people around my law firm talk about it and figure there's always room to be more organized, especially when prepping to move cities.
Also currently listening to The Passage by Justin Cronin via audiobook, since I can't bring myself to holding a book when standing on the L during my commutes. Obsessed so far.

I love this list! The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up looks really good; I'd love to hear what you think of it. A lot of these are on my to-read list too, along with:
This Changes Everything by Naomi Kline
Just Mercy by Bryan Stevenson
Let the Great World Spin by Colum McCann
All About Love: New Visions by Bell Hooks (reading this for the Our Shared Shelf book club. Anyone else on here doing this?)
When Breath Becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi (reading this now and it's incredible)
The Book of Forgiving by Desmond and Mpho Tutu
Daring Greatly by Brene Brown
Devil in the White City by Erik Larson
Lumberjanes (Comic Book Series) by Noelle Stevenson and others...
Sisters in Law by Linda Hirshman
The Sellout by Paul Beatty
and the the next books in the Cormoran Strike series (Robert Galbraith aka JK Rowling), the Bill Hodges Series (Stephen King), and the Song of Ice and Fire series (George RR Martin) if he ever finishes the damn thing.
Basically I'll read anything that crosses my path but I'm especially trying to get my fiction fix before fall.

I haven't read for pleasure in soooo long. I picked up the latest Cormoran Strike and basically inhaled it over the last week. Looking forward to making this a habit again.

I started Devil in the White City a few weeks ago, but couldn't get into it. I'm gonna try again later, because I've heard great things. I think I just had too much going on at the time to focus on it. I kinda just need fiction that I don't have to think too hard about right now. Great list! I might have to add some of those to mine

- An Introduction to Legal Reasoning by Edward H. Levi
A People's History of the Supreme Court (Peter Irons)
The Elements of Legal Style (Bryan A. Garner)
Helter Skelter (Vincent Bugliosi)
DNA and the Criminal Justice System (probably going to skim this one since it's pretty dense/textbook-y)
The Death of Innocents (Sister Helen Prejean)
Unabrow (Una Lamarche)
I think I need some lighter selections to sprinkle in there...

ETA: I am so annoyed with GRRM. I read Neil Gaiman's response to the whole issue about writers not being your slaves and to cut him some slack etc. but when the show starts to pass the books I just can't take it anymore.

Not HOC? I'm drinking some beers now, and had chicken nuggets for dinner. Not so healthy here. That said, it felt good to run fast.capricasixx wrote:Sounds like we've had polar opposite days. Held myself to only two episodes of HOC this weekend. (Please no spoilers). And the monday gods are sighting me richly with a spilled coffee on my feet on the train already. Should have stayed home to binge watch... Why didn't I. The world may never know...
