This makes me sad.thelostweasley wrote:Vacation is over and I have to fly home today. I don't wanna go
But then I'm heartened by the fact that I leave for vacation tomorrow. I'm flying to California to meet my best friend and his wife, and drive their two cars back to Florida. We drove them over, and are now driving them back. We are going from Monterey California, thru Vegas, up to Utah, and through Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, Kentucky, Tennessee, Georgia and home. I'm pretty excited. Anyone have any stellar recommendations for Denver? Or Beaver Utah? St. Louis? Drop it on me!

loving this underwear advice - Birdlaw is so wiseBirdLawExpert wrote:
Oh I can't help too much with that other than giving generic travel tips from when I travel alone. I will say travel light, if you don't have enough of something you can buy it there and save on weight for your gear. Not sure how it works for girls, but for guys, cotton underwear is going to be better for long travel, because it doesn't start to smell like the popular synthetic/under armour type boxer-brief. The most important thing is going to be comfortable shoes. If you're backpacking your feet are your primary mode of travel and you can't afford to sacrifice comfort for style.
If you're traveling alone, make sure someone knows generally where you're planning on being at any given time. This is more so that they can get in contact with you if they absolutely need to, but has the added benefit of giving you a lifeline in case things go wrong for whatever reason.
Also, keep some form of identification on your person at all times (ie, not in your backpack or purse). Your passport is ideal but I understand women's clothing is a little harder to carry things around than men's. The last thing you need while abroad is to prove who you are and have no way to do so.
Last thing, take pictures but don't let it get in the way of actually interacting. When I travel, I have a rule that I only take five pictures a day, otherwise I feel like I'm more concerned about posting on insta or snapchat than whatever else is going on.

I fall squarely into the school of travel which believes you dont really need anything else as long as your underwear and socks are comfortable.capricasixx wrote:loving this underwear advice - Birdlaw is so wiseBirdLawExpert wrote:

Now I feel like I need to research underwear, but I think that's something they frown on doing at work.BirdLawExpert wrote:I fall squarely into the school of travel which believes you dont really need anything else as long as your underwear and socks are comfortable.capricasixx wrote:loving this underwear advice - Birdlaw is so wiseBirdLawExpert wrote:

Now that the reality of quitting my job and likely moving has started to set in, I've spent most of the last two days researching everything from truck rentals, to products that help manage cat stress on long drives. My partner and I are gonna have to go look at apartments before we can, you know, move, so I'm also trying to sort out airfare/hotel/car for that trip. EVERYTHING COSTS SO MUCH. I'm starting to short-circuit.

PLEASE SHARE CAT TIPS. I'm going crazy trying to figure out if I fly (only a half day of stressed cat but only get to bring suitcases) or drive (multiple days of stressed cat but can bring way more stuff).capricasixx wrote:Now that the reality of quitting my job and likely moving has started to set in, I've spent most of the last two days researching everything from truck rentals, to products that help manage cat stress on long drives. I would fly if you can because I've driven cross-country with cats several times and it is not fun for you or them. All my cats have cried throughout the day and been super unhappy. They won't enjoy the flight either but in your case it sounds like it would be significantly faster.CJRpnw wrote:PLEASE SHARE CAT TIPS. I've been reading about a couple products that might help in both scenarios though:
https://www.amazon.com/Comfort-Zone-Fel ... B003E71E24
https://www.amazon.com/HomeoPet-Travel- ... B001EO6GF4
Some vets will give you sedatives or recommend Benadryl but I've read accounts of both having adverse effects and causing the kitties to freak out even more.

Random one off, I do not like the normal "smiley" face emoji for TLS. The baseline smiley should not show teeth. It's almost kinda creepy looking, and I hate using it.
But that aside, only 7 full working days left, including today! I feel so miserably unprepared to be going to Europe in like two weeks, but I also figure I'll still have fun basically winging it! Also it needs to be August already, the hype just keeps building! Exclamation point!

Switzerland! So excited to get to meet a bunch of family and explore some of my roots. I'll be spending ~ a week there, which is the most of any country I'll be visiting.schocolate wrote: where are you most exciting about going?

It'll be my first time in Europe, so there definitely be quite a few people I've never met before. My first stop in Geneva, though, I'll be staying with my second cousins who came and visited us in the US about 12 years ago. It'll be fun to see them again. Last time they were here, their son was still like 18 months old; now he's a teenager and they also have a younger daughter too!schocolate wrote:Oooh, that sounds lovely. This new crop of waiters takes PWing much more seriously and liberally than we all did. Don't know whether to be proud or scared.
