Unpopular opinion - I couldn't even get past the first GoT novel because GRRM's writing is so bad. I have a veeeeery low tolerance for bad writing and I can't imagine somebody on the internet recycling another author's characters is doing better than the guy who inspired a multimillion dollar HBO series

/shrug, I'd say LW is at least on par with Rowling as an author in terms of stylistic writing ability. He's a pretty brilliant guy outside of the HPMOR project. But then, I also didn't have too much a problem reading all the ASoiaF books.

Checking in, as I hear GoT talk. Yes, GRRM needs a better editor. The Dunk and Egg novellas are really great, though - when he's free of weaving a whole universe of plot threads together, he still shines.

Re: Senioritis / Quitting-my-job-soon-ioritis
I felt exactly the same way about fan fiction until last week and, to be honest, I think hpmor is better written than the originals. Better character development, more emotional resonance, more realism. But I didn't have a problem with GRRM's writing so this could just be a different strokes for different folks situation. If you ever feel like giving fanfic a chance, this one won me over so I'd say it'd be a good choice. If not, there's plenty of books on the shelves. I'll stop pushing and go back to my reading now.capricasixx wrote:I've never read a fan fiction and I don't intend to start now.SlithyTove wrote:I find your resistance to awesome things confusing.capricasixx wrote:+1Smallville wrote:nosuralin wrote:plz take note of slithytove's heartfelt endorsement! go read hpmor now

Help. I have to be at work for 2 hours and 15 minutes longer. I don't have any work to do or any bullshit meetings to waste time in. What do I do?
