Checking in! So excited!
Small question: I assume everybody is able to log in to the orientation site they referred to in the welcome email, right?

Housing application approved! Did anyone else get this email? From what I've seen in past years, assignments typically come either same day or soon after application is approved. Anyone hear anything different?

Yeah... I think I know what you're talking about. I've made, probably four different accounts with Columbia thus far.LWeeks123 wrote:Checking in! So excited!

I don't know what anything means.

That's exciting! Did you ask for law school housing? I think those have come out first the past couple of yearsSeanasr wrote:Housing application approved! Did anyone else get this email? I did. I'm also married with a kid, which I believe speeds the process.CerealMilk wrote:That's exciting! Did you ask for law school housing? Also checking in to see if anyone has any idea when the housing assignments come in. I'm losing my current lease July 15, so want to know how long I'll be couch surfing.

Based on last year's thread, it looked like early June was the beginning.frasier wrote:Also checking in to see if anyone has any idea when the housing assignments come in. I'm losing my current lease July 15, so want to know how long I'll be couch surfing.

I got "you need to activate your LawNet and be logged in with your LawNet to access orientation", even though I activated it and can log into the LawNet page.magneticfields wrote:Yeah... Got my housing assignment this morning! Pretty excited to have the only thing between me and Central Park be Morningside Park.
Also thought I'd throw it out there that I have previously lived in Morningside Heights and UAH so I can answer questions related to that, if anyone has any.

Thanks! You mean notification of the housing assignment? You get an email with the basics, address, price, furnished/unfurnished, whether utilities are included. Then you log into the housing portal for the rest of the details, what kind of apartment, floor plan, roommate info, how much of a deposit you have to put down.hopeful94 wrote:Hey! Congrats. By the way, everyone waiting on their housing assignment should start figuring out how you'll pay your deposit now. You only have 5 days once the offer is made.

Mine was the equivalent of two months' rent. First month + security deposit (which is equal to 1 month).benwyatt wrote:How much are the deposits usually?
It's actually the only aspect of the housing process that's bugged me. 5 days—not 5 business days, 5 days including the weekend—is not much time to put the money together. And there doesn't appear to be any way to split the payment across multiple cards or anything like that.
Also, I didn't get an actual window of move-in dates. My "window" was just one day.

My deposit was only $1000. Depends on the place, I think.nicknar wrote:Mine was the equivalent of two months' rent. First month + security deposit (which is equal to 1 month).benwyatt wrote:How much are the deposits usually?

My deposit is also $1000.
I got Lenfest, which does not provide ethernet. I'm an international and just checked the time warner website. The internet rate is crazy. Do people really pay $40 just to use hotspots, not even internet at their own houses?

Re: Columbia Law Class of 2019
FWIW my deposit is >$4,000 (1st month's rent + security deposit); I'm married assigned a one-bedroom, though. To echo other complaints, the 5-day window includes weekends (so, 2 business days in my case), you must pay the deposit without full knowledge (the website lists the lease as "a standard NYC lease with Columbia-specific riders," but good luck reaching the UAH staff during business hours to find out what those riders are), and, best of all, the entire deposit is 100% non-refundable should you change your mind (despite not having actually signed a lease yet).
I relate all that to say: have your options well-thought-out and the money in-hand by the time you get your assignment. I am genuinely fortunate for what I think is a great assignment, but not terribly pleased with the lack of information concerning this significant financial outlay.

I'm UAH as well. Also in couples housing, so maybe that has something to do with the larger deposit.TheKisSquared wrote:so you are, my wifi wasn't the greatest and I think I missed your post. Thanks!Tippycanoe wrote:I'm UAH.TheKisSquared wrote:have UAH people gotten word too?
