No problem! I've been stressing a great deal over this as well but I really do think this is a psychological trick to get people more invested/see if the people they're considering for aid are seriously considering them (as well as to avoid over-committing money as much as possible). As long as you don't submit the waiver form though, they don't seem to think you're committed (and on top of that, your deposits may be automatically waived as an Opportunity Scholar? Not sure, but that may be worth a call to admissions to ask about!).TheKisSquared wrote:so much stress just left my body. thank you.darlenealderson wrote:Looking back on the 2017 and 2018 forums, it seems like many people did this (sent in the form, checked off that they would deposit by the deadline, then continued negotiating/potentially changed their mind). One post even said they directly called admissions and asked if it was binding and were told it was not.TheKisSquared wrote: This makes me feel better, thank you. Does anyone know of someone who had to test this in practice?

Thoughts on "negotiating" *before* receiving an offer? I'm still out in the merit-less cold - no word from an inquiry almost 3 weeks ago. Is a gentle nudge (along with additional information on other offers) ok, or would it be uncouth?

Re: Georgetown Law Class of 2019
I've been lurking on here for a while now... but thought I'd contribute for any concerned about the intent to enroll form. I had similar concerns about the April 1 Intent to Enroll deadline, so I emailed and called the admissions office to ensure it wasn't binding. I felt my offer was pretty competitive, but I didn't want to close the door that early. In both instances the admissions office explicitly stated that submitting the intent to enroll form is not binding but rather, "the Intent to enroll form indicates to us that you plan in good faith to attend Georgetown". The "good faith" language was used both on the phone and via email. So, obviously they have dealt with this before, and are coached on how to respond to applicants about this.
Long story short, don't worry about the implications of the intent to enroll form. It is not binding and is just another part of GULC's bizarre scholarship awarding process, which seems to me is vague and confusing by design.

Is anyone here deciding between GULC and Cornell? Or did anyone here choose GULC over Cornell? I'm struggling to choose between the two, given roughly equal cost of attendance. If anyone feels strongly one way or the other, could you please share the reasons why you chose GULC or what merits you evaluated the decision on?
Much appreciated

I haven't heard anything other than a generic response to my request to be considered for aid . I sent a negotiation email following up at the end of March and still haven't heard anything.berek wrote:Thoughts on "negotiating" *before* receiving an offer? TL;DR: I've already done what you're asking about and haven't seen any movement, but don't think it can hurt.

1. I want to do something international and Cornell has no real options for this. They even ended their Chinese language immersion program. (I know how TLS feels, but I've already started networking for positions during summer 2017 so this is a well-researched decision).
2. I don't want to end up in NYC and that is the only region that Cornell has a strong pull. If my networking into a dream job doesn't pan out, I will be moving back to the West Coast and Georgetown has West Coast firms at their OCI. From what I've heard, Cornell does not.
3. My fiancee already has a lucrative career and while he can eventually find a comparable job in DC, there is no way he can do so in Ithaca.
4. I'm in my late 20s and will be in my 30s by the time I graduate. The idea of living in a college town where the median age is so much younger than me is really unappealing.
5. GULC has much better externship opportunities (to help me with the all important networking).
6. GULC has a large alumni network with a reputation for being helpful.
7. DC is the only place in the US that firms have the teams I'm hoping to be on, so I'm going to hopefully end up there anyways. Going to a school with regional pull is helpful and, more importantly, I wont have to move as much. I don't like moving.
So if your dream is NYC big law, Cornell is the probably right option. If there is something else you want to do/really hate the idea of Ithaca, GULC is probably a good bet.

I am also still waiting to receive notification of their decision, but I received the feeler email in February...tappatappatappa wrote:I received and responded to a feeler email over a week ago and still haven't heard anything... anyone else in the same boat? I know scholarship "alternate" emails went out late on a Friday a few weeks back so I'm worried that's what's coming...

Anyone have a link for a video tour or something of the law center? Also, Since the law center is separate from the university, do GULC students get access to things on the regular campus (i.e. gym, library, etc.)?

Pretty sure they do - from what I understand, gulc students can opt to take a course on the main campus as well (there's a regular shuttle between the two campuses).JuliusCaesar wrote:Anyone have a link for a video tour or something of the law center? I sent a follow up since GW's deadline is 4/15. Thanks for the info, I did not know GULC had its own gym. Not sharing a gym with undergrads sounds nice.missie wrote:Pretty sure they do - from what I understand, gulc students can opt to take a course on the main campus as well (there's a regular shuttle between the two campuses).JuliusCaesar wrote:Anyone have a link for a video tour or something of the law center? They actually have pictures of the gym on their admitted students website somewhere. Has a pool and basketball courts etc. looks pretty sweetJuliusCaesar wrote:Thanks for the info, I did not know GULC had its own gym. Re: Georgetown Law Class of 2019
Can someone give me the low down about Georgetown? I have been reading as much as I can, but I still feel like I'm not getting to the meat of the TLS consensus. I have not been seriously considering GULC, but I just got an amazingly fair need-based grant. What are the good things about the university and the bad? I don't plan on trying for big law in a huge market. If I decided to go non-government, it would be in my local market that the largest firms have less than 300 lawyers. As an older student, I want to get something out of law school. Meaning, good professors and learning opportunities.

With deposit deadlines at so many schools at the end of this week, I'm thinking we have to hear something soon.

When Andy emails to tell you that there will be no! more! money!! that's the appropriate time to stop trying to negotiate right?

Checking in!
Not that I've been accepted yet or anything...
Just came to ask a question. Will all merit offers for sure be made before the deposit deadline? Or are we going to have to go in blind?

If you're still waiting on your offer, you can try to ask for a deadline extension.conztance wrote:Checking in!
