I used to work on the back-end of theater and performing arts so I would work crazy overnight hours but I'd be backstage at all kinds of shows, get free meals and drinks, and then a crazy paycheck a few weeks later.

It was.
The only reason I stopped doing it is because the hours were really inconsistent. Some weeks I'd be turning down gigs left and right and others I'd be scrambling to get something. I'll probably try to pull some work on that front during the summer though to pick up some extra cash before school. On some of these gigs I could literally make $1K in a day. Bear in mind though that a day like that was usually a 22 hour workday...

I feel like I could put up with a 22 hour work day if it meant earning $1k that day...it feels like I'm scrambling to make extra $$ before school starts!

Currently almost done unloading and putting away this delivery. Been at work since 6am. I don't want to hear about how hard answering phones is.

Honestly, I miss doing physical labor for work.
The hours were worse but for the work I was doing the pay was better, when I left work I was absolutely certain I was done for the day, and I didn't have to deal with weird office politics.

But, you know, grass is greener, etc.

I wish. I'm on the deli side of things. 70 pound cases of beef, three-quarters of a ton of chicken wings during football season, etc. Pay's decent, ~18/hr, but I'm generally around 34-38 hours each week. And plenty of weird office politics (yay, Fortune 500 company).

And since my kitchen crew can't be trusted to answer phones (I once had a girl pick up a phone with a "Watchu want!?"), I still get to do that too.

I have relatives and friends who work in the industry. They're actually skilled electricians and/or carpenters so they got way more consistent hours than I did. I was just good for picking up heavy stuff, carrying it over to other heavy stuff and sometimes bolting heavy things to other heavy things.

Is it hard work? Not at all. Is it honest? Eh. Does it pay well? Definitely not. But it does mean I can leave town whenever I want for ASWs, so I got that going for me.

I don't know about anyone else, but my first ASWs start next week --- so that's pretty much pushing me through this week!
