And rumor has it they might announce a new shield in 2017 as that is the bicentennial of the law school?
Also, if I want to buy an HLS t shirt without actually traveling to Cambridge, is this site the most "official" place to do that? http://www.thecoop.com

Does the day your fin aid app goes complete count as one of the 10 business days? Curious if I should keep refreshing my inbox like a fiend today or if I can stave off the neuroticism for another 24 hours.

Maybe? I just got my award and went complete on March 22. They were a bit quicker than expected.gamerish wrote:Does the day your fin aid app goes complete count as one of the 10 business days? A question I will ask SFS in as tactful a way possible is how they re-evalute student assets at the end of the summer. I'm going to travel and move in the next few months, and I'm curious whether the associated spending out of my assets will have any impact on my award.

Do you get an email when all your FinAid documents are received/your app is complete? Or do you just monitor the documents tab on the portal?

You'll get an email when all docs are received and the app is marked complete. If you have a doc that seems to be waiting in limbo for more than two business days, poke the office via email or phone and they'll take care of you.EnderWiggin wrote:Do you get an email when all your FinAid documents are received/your app is complete? Thanks! Not the answer I was hoping for but SFS has been very helpful with everything thus far. The fact that merit scholarship deadlines are looming for other schools makes finding out about aid that much more stressful.mdnyc wrote: You'll get an email when all docs are received and the app is marked complete. Question about LIPP and a post-JD PhD: Am I right in reading Harvard's site as saying that LIPP will NOT cover the full debt after 10 years for a PhD student like it would for someone in a regular job?

I would just reach out to the LIPP staff directly or your admissions contact. They probably have a quick answer.RZ5646 wrote:Question about LIPP and a post-JD PhD: Am I right in reading Harvard's site as saying that LIPP will NOT cover the full debt after 10 years for a PhD student like it would for someone in a regular job?

I agree with that. But besides, I'm pretty sure LIPP puts everyone on a 10 year payment plan, so that there is no debt after 10 years (meaning, there's not a balance that's forgiven after 10 years as in a PSLF program).mdnyc wrote:I would just reach out to the LIPP staff directly or your admissions contact. According to the 509 report for Harvard, their are 21 students who are on full or above full scholarship. How is that possible considering they only offer need based and the highest need aid they give is said to be about half COA?

You can get more if you have dependents, I believe.cdotson2 wrote:According to the 509 report for Harvard, their are 21 students who are on full or above full scholarship. How is that possible considering they only offer need based and the highest need aid they give is said to be about half COA?

From what they said no matter what you need to take that $48,000 base loan. Perhaps it's people who received extremely large outside scholarships?gamerish wrote:You can get more if you have dependents, I believe.cdotson2 wrote:According to the 509 report for Harvard, their are 21 students who are on full or above full scholarship. If you had a family, no income, no savings, and did not take out $48,000 in loans every year while getting a full tuition scholarship, you would meet the criteria for Federal Poverty.grgregregre wrote:From what they said no matter what you need to take that $48,000 base loan. I feel like outside scholarships aren't discussed much on TLS. Did people here apply for them?grgregregre wrote:From what they said no matter what you need to take that $48,000 base loan. I found a list of outside aid options on Yale's website and most of them were like $1,000 and required winning an essay competition. Which is not to say that $1,000 is nothing or isn't worth writing an essay for, but it isn't going to put much of a dent in your loans. And you'd have to win a ton of $1,000 competitions to have a full-ride to Harvard.

SOOOO speaking as one of these students, I would highly encourage people to apply to the scholarships through the CGS (the University wide scholarships). They are very generous but you have to meet some weird specific criteria.grgregregre wrote:From what they said no matter what you need to take that $48,000 base loan. Ah, that makes sense. Do you remember when you were notified about receiving that award? Like 99 percent of the things in the app didn't apply to me, though.politics89 wrote:SOOOO speaking as one of these students, I would highly encourage people to apply to the scholarships through the CGS (the University wide scholarships).
