Just got the email from Andy saying they won't up my offer a second time...
Pretty disappointed. Not sure I can afford to make the Georgetown dream come true with that much debt.

Got an initial increase after sending another email. Not terrible, but modest increase. Also, noticed today that the 2016-2017 cost of attendance/living worksheet is up. Tuition increased from 55,255/year to 57,576/year. I really want to attend but they are making it pretty hard.

I'm sorry to hear that! Georgetown is definitely the dream for me too but I don't know that I can afford it at this price. Its COA is so much more than other schools already. I'm waiting a little bit before asking for my second increase.ltbenn wrote:Just got the email from Andy saying they won't up my offer a second time...

Isn't it lovely to have been held for scholarships while they are increasing other people's $$$?hammocklv06 wrote:Given that deposit deadlines at other schools are about 2 weeks away... gonna need to hear back one way or the other p soon...BirdLawExpert wrote:+250Kberek wrote:+180.kylethedog wrote:+1hammocklv06 wrote:I'm going totally insane not having heard anything re merit aid one way or the other

I understand the lag in the process (since they can't risk over-allocating), and it's not like they're the only school that takes a while, but doing the feeler emails/designating "alternates"/lowballing people until they negotiate up is definitely an easy way to frustrate your admit pool, even if it is the most waste-free process on their end.
That said, there's no real reason for them to care if we're frustrated - I'm sure they could easily fill an entire class with people paying sticker and be no worse for it, given that they're the bottom rung of the v preftigious T-14.

+1, I'm really disappointed with their process. I really enjoyed visiting and was positive on the school, but this whole scholarship situation has left me feeling like I should just jump on a better offer from a higher ranked school.berek wrote:I understand the lag in the process (since they can't risk over-allocating), and it's not like they're the only school that takes a while, but doing the feeler emails/designating "alternates"/lowballing people until they negotiate up is definitely an easy way to frustrate your admit pool, even if it is the most waste-free process on their end.

That would mean you'd give up on the *priceless* opportunity on receiving text updates from your school when there's a shooting at the Capitol building thoughzozo1717 wrote:+1, I'm really disappointed with their process. Somebody posted in the spreadsheet that they got PILS. Bummed right now, really hoping for that scholly despite the odds. That person seemed to already had a substantial scholarship prior to the additional PILS dollars.darlenealderson wrote:I applied to PILS and have heard about merit aid...I don't think I have a shot at PILS though so I wouldn't be surprised if that's why.mabes wrote:Has anyone heard about PILS // applied to PILS but otherwise heard stuff about merit aid??

Re: Georgetown Law Class of 2019
Would appreciate anyone's insight on the second round of scholarship negotiations. GULC matched my other offers, and I won't really have time to leverage GULC's offer to another school and then renegotiate with GULC before the April 1 deadline. Advice on how to renegotiate with no new information to offer the committee would be much appreciated!!!

From what I gather, you can submit the intent to enroll and not submit the deposit until later, meaning that you can wait to do second round negotiations until after the deadline. That's my plan!laynie wrote:Would appreciate anyone's insight on the second round of scholarship negotiations. So I know this is a dumb question, but I don't want to mess up.
If we are still seriously considering GULC, is there a form due on April 1st?

Only if you've received a merit aid offer that said the date of 4/1 in the e-mail.Drmrndaphd wrote:So I know this is a dumb question, but I don't want to mess up.

Clarification for current negotiator - they went up 7.5k per yr or over all three years?

I just got an email about the Opportunity Scholarship at Georgetown. Did anyone else receive this and get slightly confused by it?t14ohlehdoit wrote:squirtlesquad14 wrote:Just got my second revised scholarship offer! Per year. So from $37.5k (who comes up with these numbers?) to $60k over all three years.t14ohlehdoit wrote:squirtlesquad14 wrote:Just got my second revised scholarship offer! Re: Georgetown Law Class of 2019
I understand GULC does look at offers from WUSTL when negotiating $$. WUSTL deposit deadline is April 1st and they haven't responded to a deadline extension request. Is anyone else thinking about double-depositing at other schools to keep offers in play for negotiations? Unfortunately it's radio silence from my other t14s right now so I'm worried about losing what little leverage I have.

Re: Georgetown Law Class of 2019
Advice from I thread I created a few months back asking how to get $$$ at GULC.
Glasseyes wrote:My numbers are significantly lower than yours and I got a decent pile of money after heavy negotiations. Provided you play your cards right, you will do very well. Echoing everyone else, blanket everything from Columbia down, plus UCLA, Texas, Vanderbilt, Wash U, and GW. Negotiate at every school to maximize your bargaining power, then prepare to navigate the gauntlet...
If for some insane reason GULC doesn't offer money after your acceptance, email admissions and say you'd like to be considered for merit aid. Gently hound them until they offer to let you write the extra essay; once they offer it up, write the hell out of it. They'll ask you to name a figure that would allow you to attend: be reasonable, but you're negotiating, so start on the high side. You could be ballsy and ask for a full ride, but def request at least 120k—I have no idea if they actually go that high, but ask anyway. Again, gently hound them until they cave, which should be right before the initial deposit is due. The real key is to double deposit at whichever peer schools are offering more money than GULC. This is essential. Higher-ranked schools are better, obviously, but Texas should work, and possibly others. Before the second deposit deadline, reach out to GULC and see if there's room to negotiate again, expressing interest in the school as well as sadness that you ultimately have to make the best financial decision despite your passionate desire to attend GULC, blah blah. If they haven't already maxed out your scholarship, they'll probably buckle and give you another bump. Now, the best part: 1-2 weeks before orientation, ask again. Do it tactfully and just say that you're concerned about your finances, and that you've heard scholarship money sometimes opens up due to late-summer waitlist movements. They won't want to lose you, and may offer more money. Go forth and prosper.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
