Ummm.........what?
Sorry, didn't fully read.

Matching scholarship: It is the Boalt Hall Fellowship for $120k. Received today and they want a full commitment to the school today by 5PM PT. Hmmmmmmm.

You can say tentatively commit and not pay a deposit so I guess I'm not seeing the issue here

I also received a Boalt Hall Fellowship offer today. They explicitly state in the offer that you have until 5PM today to accept it or it will be rescinded.

Did you all receive these because you didn't have your matching offer requested?

So I just got an updated offer from a law school different from the one on my matching app. Honestly, though this one is for less money than my matching I would rather go to this new one. But the deadline is next week. On the matching application it says you can only choose one. Do you think it would turn them off if I emailed them and tried to replace my matching school?

Congrats! The deadline is tough if you're still waiting to hear on other offers/want to negotiate, but I understand why they do it. Hopefully you have enough info to weigh your options and feel good about making a decision.

I'd guess this is going to happen on a daily basis now for awhile. Hopefully all offers will be out in the near future

I don't understand how they can issue an award at 9am and expect you to make a decision about it by 5pm, especially when that means having to decline offers from other schools. I also do not appreciate them instructing the receptionist to stonewall. Some sleazy tactic.

Instructing the receptionist to stonewall? What exactly happened?

I seriously can't believe they didn't release need based aid today. Whatever game they're playing isn't cool :x

The receptionist refused to let me talk to anyone and said that it was impossible to speak to anyone at any point in the day. And that anyway Alvarez was not in and that she was the only one authorized to grant an extension (not true). The only way is through email. But there's no guarantee they would respond in time.

So, either risk losing the award, or commit to Boalt. I'm not sure if it's ineptitude or strategy.

Has anyone gotten merit scholarships yet? Other than those who were rejected from BLOS and some matching? I haven't heard of anyone who didn't apply for a matching get offered merit money yet, and I find it odd that the majority of admits havent heard about both need based and merit based money....

That is so incredibly inconsiderate to put students into that situation... What did you end up deciding, if you don't mind me asking?

Did anyone's "Financial Aid and Scholarships 2016-17" list change? Before mine did not have a "funding offered" sub-category and now it does.

The sub-category was added to mine too, but my numbers are still the same from when I was offered a need based grant a few weeks ago.

Same. Sub-category added, but no change in actual numbers.

Well here we are. My scholarship and deposit deadline at Duke is this Friday, and I haven't yet heard back from Berkeley on my financial aid. If Duke doesn't grant me an extension, I will obviously have to enroll at Duke before hearing back from Berkeley. I really hope Berkeley can get back to me this week, though....

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
