So everyone lives in an apt share? Their expected expenses for students and their housing costs are not matching up. It sounds like by budgeting carefully = choose the cheapest housing we offer. It is very important to plan carefully so that your funds will be sufficient for the entire academic year. *The estimated room expenses anticipate a budget for rent/utilities of $1,364/month for a single student

kinda bummed that after putting in the deposit there isn't like a flurry of congratulations emails and stuff from Columbia. I want things to obsess over and distract me from my lame duck job.

Nope. Talked to them today and they told me my file was in the final stage of the process and I should hear "Soon"rska884 wrote:You still haven't heard?benwyatt wrote:Anyone get a financial aid offer today?
Was hoping "soon" meant today.

Did you have them agree to send you the letter via email before they put it in the mail? I got mine via email on Tuesday, and still haven't received it via snail mail. And I live down the street from campus...benwyatt wrote:Nope. That's so frustrating, it's almost May. Are there any other schools that do this? I've really only heard it w/r/t Columbia.benwyatt wrote:Nope. If you have to make a decision today/this weekend, I would literally call and e-mail them right now.benwyatt wrote:Yeah, they said they'd email it.frasier wrote:Did you have them agree to send you the letter via email before they put it in the mail? This kind of happened to me too where I got the general "soon response". 1 week later there was nothing, so I emailed fin aid and the director if it. I got an e-mail within the hour with my offer.

I emailed on Sunday about a last-minute bump in my merit-based aid. Should I get at them today, or is it unreasonable to expect something this soon?YCDAACH wrote:If you have to make a decision today/this weekend, I would literally call and e-mail them right now.benwyatt wrote:Yeah, they said they'd email it.frasier wrote:Did you have them agree to send you the letter via email before they put it in the mail? Geez I can't believe they made you wait this long. I don't see how they can make you decide before you know how much you're getting. I agree with the above -- I think you should pester them now/email the director of fin aid and follow up with another call.benwyatt wrote:Nope. As to rska884's question - afaik Berkeley is the only other school that has been as slow as Columbia, and even more unresponsive. Still ridiculous that a school could expect anyone to agree to take such a huge risk/investment without any idea about aid.

Agreed, that's crazy. I think at this point you're well within your rights to just hound them as much as needed to get a response. Most of my other schools' deadlines have even already passed at this point.crescentstars wrote:Geez I can't believe they made you wait this long. I emailed on Tuesday doing the same thing. Got a rejection on Thursday. Although if they're taking longer then maybe they're considering it?ftge232 wrote:I emailed on Sunday about a last-minute bump in my merit-based aid. ^This. I get that schools have been busy trying to figure things out for all of their admits, but these wait times are nuts. Definitely think people should hound at this point just to make sure they don't fall through the cracks - it seems like that has been happening to at least a few people.rska884 wrote:Agreed, that's crazy.
