Is there ever going to be a google doc or survey posted (here or in the fb group) to help us find roommates? Should we go ahead and make one and post it here for those interested?

Hey all, I'll be looking for a roommate (preferably starting this summer), $200-$600 range. Not sure how to find people, I've never visited Charlottesville! 21 year old female, don't care if roommate is male or female. Message me if you're interested

So I tried negotiating a scholarship with Cordel after ASW by emailing him. He has not yet responded, though. Is that typical or should I email Grace too in the hopes that she will respond? I don't want to annoy them, but at the same time I am concerned they may be blowing me off (especially since they claimed they were out of money at ASW, but have now been able to give out Dillards
)

I emailed Cordel the week of ASW and haven't received a response either. There is a UVA finaid email so I was thinking about checking in with them soon... kinda bummed that after the fb post said to email him directly he screened his inboxskimmilk wrote:So I tried negotiating a scholarship with Cordel after ASW by emailing him. I emailed Grace, since she was my interviewer. We've had a few conversations in the past, so I'm hoping that it got back to the right people.zyxwvut2 wrote:I emailed Cordel the week of ASW and haven't received a response either. Glad I am not the only one. He told me at ASW to email him directly so I assumed he would be on the look out, but maybe he was overwhelmed with responseszyxwvut2 wrote:I emailed Cordel the week of ASW and haven't received a response either. They may have budgeted for Dillards when doing financial aid. I'm almost wondering if they specifically gave only loans initially to Dillard recipients, if they knew they'd be getting Dillards ahead of time.skimmilk wrote:So I tried negotiating a scholarship with Cordel after ASW by emailing him. It took Grace a week to reply to me when I tried negotiating. But if it's been a while and since deposit deadlines are coming up, I don't think it'd hurt to try again.
Good luck!

Dean Faulk is swamped with requests from what I've been told, I wouldn't chalk it up to him ignoring you quite yet.

Anyone get their travel stipend yet for ASW, or know when we should expect it? I assume it's coming in the form of a check in the mail?
Edit: should have looked first--the UVA Law website says 6-8 weeks.

I was at the UVA and Duke ASWs (also went to UVA for undergrad and loved it).Drmrndaphd wrote:Can anyone who was at both the UVA and Duke ASW compare? Pros? Cons? HELP ME.
Speaking strictly about the ASWs themselves, I feel like Duke's ASW was better planned and had events that allowed admitted students to meet each other and current students much more readily than UVA's. That probably contributed to Duke having a more tight-knit community feel than UVA did.
Regarding the "vibe" I got from each school, Duke definitely came across as more studious than UVA did. That's not to say that people at UVA don't work hard, but I got a more serious feeling when I was at Duke.
As far as the actual law buildings, Duke blows UVA away. The pictures online really don't do Duke's building justice. UVA's building was renovated back in '97 with some pieces done here and there until '02. Duke's building is brand new and has natural light everywhere.
Regarding the overall feels of the cities, I feel like C'ville is a smaller Durham. The Research Triangle (Durham, Chapel Hill, and Raleigh) is a much bigger and populated area that has 12 colleges and universities within its borders. While C'ville does have fantastic dining, music, art, and other entertainment options, Durham and the surrounding area is just bigger and has more options.
I'm also not sure how much my impressions are colored by part of me wanting a change of pace from UVA. Don't get me wrong, I love UVA and C'ville, but a change of pace is always nice.
Those are my initial thoughts, but I'm happy to answer any more particular questions you may have.

Duke's law building actually reminded me of a war bunker-there isn't natural light everywhere, some places are pretty dark and have low ceilings. The students there didn't seem as happy to me. One thing that was weird to me was that Duke was a bit more defeatist in attitude, like "oh, good luck with your decision," whereas UVA was more "you are the perfect fit, we hope to see you here next year." The last one is something that I think depends on personal preferences--some people like to feel wanted, others dislike being pressured.doublehoohopeful wrote:I was at the UVA and Duke ASWs (also went to UVA for undergrad and loved it).Drmrndaphd wrote:Can anyone who was at both the UVA and Duke ASW compare? City wise, Durham is much more spread out. My friend said that the parking lot for the 1Ls is a fifteen minute walk to the law building.

That being said, I think you need to go off your own opinion. I'm happy to listen objectively if you PM me, but everyone has different opinions and priorities and values, so you shouldn't let others' opinions influence your own. The schools are similar, though.RedWhite&Blonde wrote:Duke's law building actually reminded me of a war bunker-there isn't natural light everywhere, some places are pretty dark and have low ceilings. Just FYI, I tried negotiating directly with Dean Faulk, and he said no.
