I found this article to be very helpful in my internal struggle about this same topic:BirdLawExpert wrote:JAG is off the table for me, now. I'm not voluntarily entering a chain of command with Donald Trump at the top.schocolate wrote:has the election changed anyone's law school plans?

As someone with a deep military family - the chance a JAG officer (regardless of branch) sees anything close to combat is about as remote as you can get. Honestly if that was the case - shit has hit the fan in that locale or there's another draft.BirdLawExpert wrote:JAG is off the table for me, now. Re: Abandon A1L Hope, Ye Who Enter Here (1L thread)
I've already been through the entirety of Air Force ROTC in undergrad and have many friends in the military. The issue isn't being in combat, the issue is that I'm interested in operational law, and I don't want to be involved in enabling operations that I believe to be fundamentally opposed to the nation's interests. Military officers have an obligation to oppose clearly unlawful orders, but must obey all other orders under penalty of court martial; I fully expect Trump to operate in that grey area of morally questionable, but not outright illegal. I don't want to enter that world, and be resigned to repeating, "there's nothing that explicitly forbids that activity" ad nauseam until I separate.foregetaboutdre wrote: As someone with a deep military family - the chance a JAG officer (regardless of branch) sees anything close to combat is about as remote as you can get. Appreciate the article. I feel much the same way about general positions within the bureaucracy of the government (I would have no problem working in federal law enforcement, for instance), but the military is a separate calculation in my head due to the obligation of obeying orders.beenoparte125 wrote: I found this article to be very helpful in my internal struggle about this same topic:

Obviously not an easy job to get, but the ACLU is going to get a lot of interesting and valuable work going forward. Would be awesome to be a part of that

Now looking a little bit less seriously at anti-trust law. Seems like there could be some uncertainty in how enforcement changes under Trump. May focus more on USAO.schocolate wrote:has the election changed anyone's law school plans?
Not that it matters all that much. Unlikely to get a FedGov job right out of law school anyways, so Trump will unlikely be president when I apply. Probably gotta do my time in Biglaw regardless of who is president.

finally getting to work on my final brief for my legal writing class and it is so clear why I held off 2 weeks after getting it to start... this is torture. It doesn't help that I'm starting to get pretty tired but I know this will be the most I get done of it for a bit bc of the way I work but just wanna stop and go to bed

Do you have any other suggestions for minded 1Ls interested in gender justice/reproductive rights/civil rights in general???Slytherpuff wrote:Try applying to the Brennan Center as well!ugg wrote:Going to try to get ACLU this summer. I've heard CRR. There are SOO many options and it's hard to sort out which ones are actually worth pursuing.

I'll let you know if I can think of some more! I think you should apply broadly and then once you have internship offers, talk to people who worked there previously to see how substantive the summer work actually is.ugg wrote:Do you have any other suggestions for minded 1Ls interested in gender justice/reproductive rights/civil rights in general???![]()

Anyone using audio lectures to supplement their studying? I've found Richard Freer's Law School Legends super helpful.

This backfired when I posted in the 2L thread, but I just wanted to see if any 1Ls wanted to take part in TLS Secret Santa this year. The sign-up deadline is coming up soon!

Is it normal that this graded memo is causing me physical pain?

I've had at least ten section-mates say the same thing. Statistically speaking, at least some of them are wrong.ugg wrote:I feel like I have no idea what I'm doing ever and that I must be fucking SOMETHING up, though it's hard to know what
You are okay! You've got a plan, stick to it as best you can.
