So I went on Facebook trying to set up a group, and it turns out I need to list at least one other person by name/ email address. If one of y'all would be down to share that information, I could get the group going and share it here.

I think I'm going to live on-campus... filling out the application today at work. Is everyone that's completing the housing app leaving the roommate request blank, or does anyone actually know who they wanna room with?

Pertinent to the previous discussion about where to live, I'm currently sharing a place with two other NYU people. One of my roommates is leaving to work elsewhere, and the other one is a 2L. I'm starting at a firm this October and we're hoping to fill our third room.

Apartment is in Brooklyn and the commute is 20 minutes by direct subway to NYU. Rent is $1190 a month, and comes with private bathroom, dishwasher, central heating and washer/dryer. We're on the same block as the subway stop. I don't want to turn this thread into an apartment ad, so PM me for pictures if interested. We're really hoping to fill it with somebody from NYU Law.

I feel like I am going to need $8,000 just to get in to a place and I have already started to annoy my parents and Billings about being guarantors. I am really excited about NYU and New York, but this housing search seems like it will be complete hell.

Yeah, I've already just decided to apply for on-campus housing just for the first year- it would be way to stressful to find a place when you don't really know the market. Also, from what I know about NYC, stuff moves really fast so you wouldn't really be able to look till August or at the earliest July. I'd rather suck it up and pay more so I know I have a place to move into this fall.

BUT NYU Housing has a housing registry so once you get your netID and email set up you can log into there and see postings for room shares and apartments which may make it slightly easier. I recommend taking a look at that as well.

For the NYU Facebook group: someone on here was trying to set one up and I just tried as well, but you need to add at least one other person to the page before it can be created. I gave my info to the other member here so they could find me and add me to it to set it up but if anyone wants to give me their facebook email and be an admin with me, I can set one up later today!

I would love to do NYU housing, but we have a pet :/ and it also seems more expensive for a family apartment then what I could get in a good Brooklyn neighborhood. They also seem to dormy and bla. So actually I really don't want to do NYU housing, but I really want the convenience of NYU housing.
