Slightly neurotic question but people who have submitted the HLS online commitment form, how long did it take to receive confirmation?
Just want to know whether I should call them yet to make sure it went through, and also don't want to wait too long before withdrawing my other apps (def not doing that before receiving confirmation).

Can't give you a number because I haven't committed yet. But, if you think it has been longer than it should and there might be a problem, I would just call. I had a quick question about something related to financial aid and the person on the phone was super helpful and didn't sound inconvenienced at all. It was like 30 seconds of her day. Plus, what are they going to do...rescind your acceptance?cantorb wrote:Slightly neurotic question but people who have submitted the HLS online commitment form, how long did it take to receive confirmation?

Could we get a new poll going soon since we're almost done with admits? Maybe one that asks intentions (Committed, will commit soon, likely going elsewhere w/o money, likely going elsewhere w/ money, deferring) or best part of ASW (to be put up next week)? Other ideas?

Re: Harvard C/O 2019
I have actually done the HBX CORe program. It is a nice thing to put on your resume and it definitely is worthwhile at $300 (at least at my willingness to pay) if you have not had much experience in business economics, business analytics and financial accounting (and are interested in learning). It will probably take you at least 10 hours a week to pass. If you want honors, you need to participate a lot and work at least 20 hours a week. I participated in the program when I had a full time job, was writing my Master's dissertation, and studying for the MCAT (interested JD-MD here). Needless to say, I did not have the time for honors, but I am still proud to have the nice HBX certificate!Topszn wrote:I think it looks pretty interesting, suppose it would be helpful if you plan on BigLaw. The course incorporates a lot of business examples for you to understand the concepts. The video lectures are also very well done (seamless transitions between the concepts and real life examples/interviews with those in the business world). It also actually does effectively use the case method style of learning that HBS employs. I think HBS has done a fantastic job in showing the potential of online learning platforms with HBX CORe. However, you will need to sit in a testing facility for the final exam.
I did the 8 week version of this course, so my experience is a little different from the 10 week version.
Feel free to ask me any questions about the program!

Thanks, this was really helpful. I've studied economics and business before, its more the financial accounting side i'm interested in. Still reckon it'd be worth it? The exam time is right when I'm moving to Cambridge, that's the biggest thing putting me off.ShivB wrote:I have actually done the HBX CORe program. The analytics (which is just multiple regresion analysis and statistics for business) and business economics will be easy for you (as it was for me), but you will still need to put the effort in. The modules are set up so you must finish everything before getting to the quizzes at the end. So even if you know it all, you still have to go through it again (you can speed up the videos and answer questions quicker, but it still can be a bore if you already are very familar with the subject matter).Topszn wrote:Thanks, this was really helpful. I also did it for a better understanding of financial accounting and I learned a lot. The final exam time is a span of a month or so and you can choose any time that fits with you. So the flexibility there should make it no problem even if you are busy for a few weeks in that time frame.
At the end of it, are you willing to pay $300 for a certificate, resume/linkedin addition, learning financial accounting, having to slog through familair material (although you may still learn new things and reinforce your knowledge), and experiencing an innovative online learning platform? I won't decide for you, especially because I fear telling you to do what may wind up as a bad decision for you, but what I stated is what I think is reasonable to consider.
Hope this helps

Good call--I always appreciate a poll suggestion!
Just added one for intentions. I'll try to change it up with some regularity in the future.

Don't mean to freak you out but when I submitted the online commitment form I received confirmation almost immediately and then received an email from my interviewer the next day congratulating me. This has to be the busiest time of the year for their office though so I imagine that may factor into the delay.cantorb wrote:Slightly neurotic question but people who have submitted the HLS online commitment form, how long did it take to receive confirmation?

I'm having trouble logging into the financial aid site. Do you need to wait until you receive some sort of fin aid email, or can you apply for fin aid as soon as you activate your Harvard email / username? (To be clear, I have received 2 1L2B emails, the admit offer message and the email setup message).

My main question is whether it's computerized or needs a person to enter the information. Sounds like it's computerized, so I guess I'll call them.

Awesome, thanks for answering! I got my log in info today, and I see exactly what you're talking about.cannonballer wrote:You can schedule an Individual Visit on certain Monday's and Friday's, where they create an itinerary you that includes visiting a class, lunch with a student, and talking to various offices (Career Services, etc). I still haven't received the info to log into the admitted students page, but I'm trying to figure out plans. Can anyone tell me if there's any info about visiting/sitting in on classes outside of the ASWs on the page, or is it just the regular self-guided tours? Or if there's any additional information about visiting?
Thank you in advance!

Anybody else bringing an SO to ASW this weekend? I know it's not a problem, just curious if anybody else plans on doing so.

Also, I'm pretty sure that all of the "No" answers to the poll fall under the "bad taste in law schools" category

(obviously kidding, you all do you)

I plan on going with my SO to the second ASW. I saw the schedules for them are nearly identical to our own, so it should be fun.R2D7point5 wrote:Anybody else bringing an SO to ASW this weekend? I know it's not a problem, just curious if anybody else plans on doing so.

You guys CORe sounds awful lol
But what I like is that some of you will do it and love it/find it incredibly useful. Diversity of opinion/interests is one really cool plus of HLS from what I can tell
