A little advice - Pav is fucking horrible. You're paying literally double than the surrounding options. Moreover, there seems to be constant fire alarms and I've heard numerous problems with leaks and the like from the shitty construction.
I live in the Jeffersonian - they put that shit up in like six months. I only know a handful of people that lived there more than a year.

Just my $.02 as a Hoo Law grad, the vibe isn't fake. UVa was a fantastic place to spend three years...though commiserating about the difficult slog will, as always, be a part of the experience.GreekOmega12 wrote:+1 UVA has a great vibe. Plenty of activities (assuming you want to get out of the library, though many school sponsored activities are there to give you short breaks even when you're in the library), good family vibe for students with children, nice gym facilities right next to the school (don't underestimate the correlation between health and success--the mental health facilities are also solid, and free with your tuition), pleasant study areas inside the school and in court yards, pro-active career center (remember to reach out to them if you need help), a dean of student affairs who is easy to access and there for you should you need advice, and professors (for the most part) that give two-shits about the students. Overall, the weather is surprisingly nice all year too--this from a San Diegan.
Hard not to love UVa Law. Good luck with everything y'all.

So I went to ASW and really enjoyed it. I also love Charlottesville. However, they've given me zero scholarship money, and I have half tuition at peer ranked schools. I've tried to negotiate previously and got a no, but since going to ASW I thought it might be worth a shot. Any ideas on how to reapproach?

There really seems to be no budging them this year, haven't heard of a single success story.herecomesthesun wrote:So I went to ASW and really enjoyed it. I also love Charlottesville. Sort of what I thought--Faulk said at ASW to email him and Grace but I'm really dreading it.Nagster5 wrote:There really seems to be no budging them this year, haven't heard of a single success story.herecomesthesun wrote:So I went to ASW and really enjoyed it. Also - I'll co-sign this. I'm not one for gushiness, but I can seriously count the people I don't like on one hand, and these are the people that just don't get how social interaction works. It's a great environment, and they do a pretty good job of screening for assholes. (Myself excepted)esq wrote:Just my $.02 as a Hoo Law grad, the vibe isn't fake. I also heard really good things about it--basically everyone lives there and hangs out. If that's your thing, then cool! If not, no worries--there are plenty of other great options.skimmilk wrote:^^ I heard nothing but good things about Pav (besides being overpriced) from everyone, but that 1L. I think her issue with Pav was more that 1) it was expensive and 2) they treat you like a student/child in regards to guests/access to the building/package delivery etc. If you enjoy student housing you will probably have no issue there from what I've heard. If you enjoy your freedom and little interaction with housing staff you may want to consider elsewhere (of course I am reporting this all secondhand so if I am spewing nonsense hopefully someone with experience can correct me).
PS. My friend and I are looking for a third roommate-message me if interested.

Northwestern just gave me a full ride...any chance UVa would consider negotiating?

No need to be snarky--not trying to humble brag! I'm just saying that here's the typical pattern, but there can occasionally be exceptions (hence any chance). I think someone had Cordell tell them to let them know if they got the Toll scholarship from Penn (which, of course, is viewed as more of a peer school).SCOTUSorBust wrote:"Oh look at me, a T14 gave me a full ride? Just got scholly info via snail mail...way more than I was expecting--I had actually responded to my need aid package to ask about merit aid updates and was told by the person (who must have been misinformed) that I wouldn't be getting anything. Very pleased, this may change my view on this decision process quite a bit.

Wow that is huge because they have been very clear with all of us that they were done handing out scholarships. Congrats!darlenealderson wrote:Just got scholly info via snail mail...way more than I was expecting--I had actually responded to my need aid package to ask about merit aid updates and was told by the person (who must have been misinformed) that I wouldn't be getting anything. Has anyone tried negotiating? How long did it take them to get back to you? Any success stories?

Exact same thing happened to me! I was told in my interview there was no merit based aid left, then got an offer on FridayRedWhite&Blonde wrote:Congrats!OtterLaw wrote:Wow that is huge because they have been very clear with all of us that they were done handing out scholarships. Well given all this, I want to try to negotiate one more time. I don't have more information for them besides a big Northwestern scholarship, so I'm not sure how to handle this.

So after all the fuss with $0, today I received a Dillard in the mail...there's hope for people who initially received $0!

Stupid question, but for the withdrawals, you just email the school and say that you will not be attending, correct?slippin_jimmy wrote:jtg21 wrote:So after all the fuss with $0, today I received a Dillard in the mail...there's hope for people who initially received $0!congrats!!!
