Re: UC Berkeley (Boalt Hall) Law Class of 2019
Did anyone receive an email on Friday with the subject line "Financial Aid: Action Required! Log In to CalCentral" and then instructions telling you to login to CalCentral to review your financial aid offer?
When I login, it says that $0 have been awarded in grant money. Should I assume that email is my rejection for a matching scholarship? I was assuming I would receive an email specifically indicating whether or not I've been offered a matching scholarship, rather than a more generic email from the financial aid office telling me to check my financial aid package.
For anyone who has been offered a matching scholarship, can you share what your email offer/notification looked like?

My email came a few days after CalCentral was updated. It was from 'Financial Aid Announce' (I don't want to give the exact email but that's who it will say it's from) and was titled 'Berkeley Law Matching Scholarship Award Letter'.xoxoxo10 wrote:Did anyone receive an email on Friday with the subject line "Financial Aid: Action Required! That is a weird email to receive, but I don't think it's a rejection. I think a rejection will specifically say that you're submission was rejected.

Did you submit your Fafsa? It sounds like maybe your file was incomplete, hence the phrase "action required".xoxoxo10 wrote:Did anyone receive an email on Friday with the subject line "Financial Aid: Action Required! I just noticed that under the "Tasks" --> "Completed" tab on my dashboard only my FASFA is listed and not Need Based application. Do other people have Need Based listed here???

I don't have it listed, but I definitely completed it, and listed Cal.

Thanks, that's helpful to hear. Crossing my fingers that I'll get a better email this week

I did submit my FAFSA (and it's listed as complete on CalCentral), so I don't think that's it.Applesauce11 wrote:Did you submit your Fafsa? If you mean need access, I asked about that a while ago and they said it wouldn't show up on cal central, so you should have nothing to worry aboutjtle624 wrote:I just noticed that under the "Tasks" --> "Completed" tab on my dashboard only my FASFA is listed and not Need Based application. It has to come out by Apr 15, right? I can't imagine how boalt expect people to make decision without financial aid info.

I understand that Berkeley allows us an extension until June, but many other schools expect us to decide by Friday
I have no idea what to do.. This all seems very unprofessional/poorly planned? Like is this something I should come to expect from Berkeley or is this FA process a misrepresentation of the school?

Dear Eugepaeee:
Thank you for applying for the Boalt Hall Need-Based Grant program. After careful consideration of your application information, I regret to inform you that you have not been awarded a grant.
At this time, admitted students are still being considered for our merit-based scholarships. For the general merit pool, awards are made on a rolling basis and we anticipate that all or nearly all offers will be made by the end of April. Scholarship recipients will be notified via email. We do not routinely send out scholarship “deny” letters as it is possible that we will make more offers up until June 1st.
what. what what what. so now i have to wait to "maybe" get a scholarship? berkeley was my top choice but this is insane.

Re: UC Berkeley (Boalt Hall) Law Class of 2019
I certainly hope it's not representative. Other law schools have gone really far out of their way to keep me apprised of each and every step of the process in as timely of a manner as possible. I appreciated that immensely. But I just feel like I've been in the dark with Berkeley for months and my deadlines are fast approaching... I don't mind them taking a while to make a decision, but an update as to where they stand in the process would certainly be helpfulskimmilk wrote:I understand that Berkeley allows us an extension until June, but many other schools expect us to decide by FridayI have no idea what to do..
