The law school essentially borders Somerville, and a lot of other towns are within manageable bus rides. Where are you looking at?

I have no clue, I'm just doing random searches. I'm not from Boston so I don't know anything.

So in the initial email it says to let them know within 24 hours if you want to change your mailing address. I replied to the email with my updated address this morning, but have not heard back. Do I need to call?

Edit: I called and they said that they updated it but are too busy to send back individual emails. Just FYI if anyone else is in the same boat.

Sommerville and Allston would be your best bets. Also look at the Cambridgeport, Porter Square and West Cambridge/Fresh Pond areas of Cambridge.

North Cambridge/Arlington close to the 77 bus line on Mass Ave would also work, as would northern Watertown and southern Belmont along the 71 and 73 buses. All have frequent buses with direct service to Harvard Sq running roughly every 7-15 minutes during peak times. I've always found the Allston buses that cross the JFK St bridge to be pretty overwhelming during rush hour, but I may have just been been unlucky. Allston is also way hipper than the more residential/family-oriented locations that I've added.

Checking in! My decision will depend upon my financial aid package, but I'm so excited to even have the option of attending Harvard!

Have any recent admits applied for aid yet? I know the admit email says you should receive instructions from financial services, but I haven't received anything yet and was wondering if there was a way I could get started.

They have to add you to the a system, it takes a few days. I tried to do it early like 100 times and wasn't able to until I got the email with the instruction.

Any thoughts on the merits of the CORe program? Also does anyone know if grades from that factor into first year HLS GPAs?

I think it looks pretty interesting, suppose it would be helpful if you plan on BigLaw. It doesn't factor into your GPA/count as credit for anything.

Considering doing this too. Looks like it can be useful for non-profit work as well.

The grades certainly do not have any effect on HLS GPAs. Also, I checked out the syllabus after my interviewer recommended it to me (I'm an econ/finance major interested in business/law), and I must say that it is pretty much split into three sections, one of which teaches basic (and I mean BASIC) microeconomics, another of which teaches basic (see previous parenthetical) finance, and the last of which teaches basic (you know the drill) statistics. Not to say that those basic concepts aren't helpful, but anyone who has taken a class on micro, finance, and statistics has certainly covered all that (and more) and at the prices listed for CORe, I have a hard time believing the material is worth it. If you really want to learn that stuff check out Khan Academy or a similar online (AND FREE) learning program and if you want to make sure you are learning all that CORe would teach you then feel free to pm me and I will take a bit of time to personally find stuff on all of the topics that CORe would teach. If you still want to do CORe irrespective of all that information, I truly cannot imagine why and I would be happy to teach you personally for a very tiny fraction of what CORe would cost (but it would still cost more than getting it for free from an internet teacher who is probably way better at teaching than I am).

Anyway, anyone should feel free to pm me if they have questions about CORe or any econ/finance topic; I'm not going to actually charge anyone anything.

ETA: I just saw the email that went to our HLS email about the law school subsidizing it so it only costs $300, the rest of this post was predicated on it costin $1500+. At $300 it is at least worthy of consideration, but I still would probably choose to learn it for free somewhere else (and my offer to give specifics/advice to anyone interested still stands)

Also I expect to hear awesome stories posted ITT from all of the hijinks that you TLSers get up to at ASW.
(The first one to figure out Hilde's identity just from seeing her in person gets a free drink on me at any time during fall semester, and maybe Schocolate will throw in some pastries)

QC (and Ender), are you going to join us cool kids at the second ASW? Or do we have to take notes on all the fun we're having without you?

Well my fiancee just found our apartment so now the party planning can begin in earnest. I feel like I should probably wait until our application is approved to ask the lessor: "What is your policy on hosting parties? I don't know any of the guests personally yet, but judging from their online personae it is probably going to be a rager."

Irrelevant sidenote: I actually had to cite some Massachusetts state law to the landlord while negotiating and it was a huge rush. Definitely helped to even further solidify my choice of attending law school.

curveball: I have actually already visited because I could not end up making either ASW. I fully expect to be FaceTimed in at some point during both weekends' festivities though so somebody get on that

Similar curveball: I was in Boston visiting my fiance over my spring break a couple weeks ago so I can't really justify going back up for ASW. I will have to settle for living vicariously through the posts about it here.

Hi, everyone! I can't make it to either ASW, but I'm still trying to visit before May. I still haven't received the info to log into the admitted students page, but I'm trying to figure out plans. Can anyone tell me if there's any info about visiting/sitting in on classes outside of the ASWs on the page, or is it just the regular self-guided tours? Or if there's any additional information about visiting?

Thank you in advance!

That's way too easy. I'm fairly confident that if anybody were to see me, they'd instantly know. I am the exact physical manifestation of my personality. Which is lame cuz I try so hard to be mysterious 8)

You can schedule an Individual Visit on certain Monday's and Friday's, where they create an itinerary you that includes visiting a class, lunch with a student, and talking to various offices (Career Services, etc). I did this and had a great experience.

Seriously? What are you waiting for?

Now there's a charge.
