If you're at ASW and not upstairs at Boylan Heights right now, you're wrong.

So has anyone else just had an amazing vibe since they arrived yesterday? Because I'm sold.

It's so exciting to hear all of this positive stuff from you guys at ASW! I wish I could be there, but I'm getting really pumped up for fall just reading about it!

Yup, ASW was pretty damn amazing. Not sure whether or not I met any of you this weekend (I didn't mention or even look at TLS for over two days, so that should tell you something), but everyone I did meet was absolutely fantastic. If I end up at UVA this Fall, I know I won't be disappointed in my decision.
I have a few more ASWs to go to before I commit anywhere, but UVA just set a high bar.

Sooo how does 57% of UVA students pay sticker? Like do they come from affluent families or are there that many people willing to take on such significant debt? UVA is by far my top choice, but I am waiting to see if after deposits admissions will have some FA to spare based on my other offers.

A good portion of those people have GI Bill, external scholarships, or other things that wouldn't factor into the "% receiving aid" number. Or they are PI committed and the debt total doesn't matter too much since they will be doing VLFP and IBR and the payments will be the same for any loan amount.skimmilk wrote:Sooo how does 57% of UVA students pay sticker? ^ Agreed. But even more than the PI thing, I'd say a lot are planning on going private. And despite tuition cost, UVA positions you pretty well to get dat BigLaw $$

Re: UVA Law Class of 2019
My point was a lot of people think (or at least conflate) the % of people paying sticker = the percent of people receiving aid from the school, which is not true. Many of the people who got $0 in aid from the school are going to pay much less than sticker, whether that be on the front end through external scholarships or on the back end through loan forgiveness/structured repayment programs.

Probably unlikely, since they've only given out more aid once in the past eight years. (This has nothing to do with you, just that it's a public school with less $ to throw at admitted students. So they really aren't able to negotiate.)skimmilk wrote:Sooo how does 57% of UVA students pay sticker? Re: UVA Law Class of 2019
Oh no worries, I understand it is not personal. With that being said I heard from some people who are being considered for Penn's PI scholarship and Faulk told them to contact him if they receive it (presumably so UVA can attempt to make an offer). I took this to mean that maybe, just maybe, UVA has a secret stash they may be able to break in.. Of course this is unlikely, but there is really no harm in hoping for the best!RedWhite&Blonde wrote:Probably unlikely, since they've only given out more aid once in the past eight years. What is everyone who is undecided thinking about housing? I'm having minor anxiety over finding a place to live/roomie(s) if I do end up at UVA... The Darden ASW is mid-April and I'm thinking that's probably the last call on affordable/walkable/livable options.

The student life panel I sat in on said you will probably be fine until May housing wise.. One student said he waited until July and still found housing but it was a five minute drive away.. The rest got walking distance places no problem so I wouldn't worry!zyxwvut2 wrote:What is everyone who is undecided thinking about housing? I was in this panel too! Word to the wise: most students had nothing but good things to say about the housing options, but a 1L went out of her way to warn us away from Pav (overpriced, not as convenient as the other options with its mail and guest policy, etc.)HoosOnFirst wrote:That's the panel I was inskimmilk wrote:The student life panel I sat in on said you will probably be fine until May housing wise.. I also remember someone saying that Pav always has spots, one student joked that you could call them the day before classes start. But I don't know if that falls in the "affordable" category or not.

Re: UVA Law Class of 2019
^^ I heard nothing but good things about Pav (besides being overpriced) from everyone, but that 1L. I think her issue with Pav was more that 1) it was expensive and 2) they treat you like a student/child in regards to guests/access to the building/package delivery etc. If you enjoy student housing you will probably have no issue there from what I've heard. If you enjoy your freedom and little interaction with housing staff you may want to consider elsewhere (of course I am reporting this all secondhand so if I am spewing nonsense hopefully someone with experience can correct me).

Re: UVA Law Class of 2019
If you go in the "UVA Law Students Taking Questions" thread it's nothing but terrible things about the Pav. I remember something about the fire alarm going off all the time and then just general distaste for the whole place. Most people on there said treat it as a last resort. I also had a friend who lived there for her 1L say she wouldn't recommend it, although I didn't ask her to elaborate.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
