Just submitted my deposit! Very excited to finally know where I'm going. I also looked at the class schedules for next year, and it seems like there's a section with no class on Fridays..

All I know is that I really want to be in Erin Murphy's crim law class. She was great during the ASW mock class.

Anyone want to commiserate on the "waiting for aid info from other schools" issue?
Why does NYU's deadline have to be so much earlier than everyone else's?!

Re: NYU Law Class of 2019
I was definitely having these moments over the past few weeks but I ended up deciding that what NYU had offered me, even if it was matched by the other school I was most waiting on, was enough for me to go there, and that if I hadn't yet gotten my FA from them, then only one of a few things could be true: I'm not their priority but I may get some money, I am their priority and they want to make sure they have a ton of open money to offer me, or I'm probably not getting money at all. Only scenario two could have changed my decision, but I figured that given how many named scholarships had gone out already from that school, and how unresponsive they were being to me and these deadlines, that it was probably the least likely thing. Therefore, I had to make my decision based on that school with some money, or the risk that I'd be stuck with that school at sticker....neither bettered NYU in my mind because NYU is offering so many things that I want. I think at some point though you have to just make the decision based on the data you have, not on the data you're hoping to have...if a school you're waiting on at $0 would trump NYU at whatever they've offered, that sounds to me like a good reason not to go for it.sfoglia wrote:Anyone want to commiserate on the "waiting for aid info from other schools" issue?

This. I even ran through a few "if they found the money" scenarios with folks.darlenealderson wrote:I was definitely having these moments over the past few weeks but I ended up deciding that what NYU had offered me, even if it was matched by the other school I was most waiting on, was enough for me to go there, and that if I hadn't yet gotten my FA from them, then only one of a few things could be true: I'm not their priority but I may get some money, I am their priority and they want to make sure they have a ton of open money to offer me, or I'm probably not getting money at all. Re: NYU Law Class of 2019
You have to submit the intent to enroll before submitting the deposit, and it specifically says that you've already withdrawn apps to anywhere you're accepted. Waitlists do seem to fall through the cracks, but that's really it, so yes pretty binding. I think if you decide to defer later on or something that would be fine, but it is saying that if you're at any law school in fall it has to be NYU or somewhere you haven't heard from yet on admission.tappatappatappa wrote:Is NYU's deposit binding?

I'm considering being near the L Line in Brooklyn.Generally wrote:I have been spending the last few days looking at places in NYC. Anybody else thinking Brooklyn?
Anyone looking for roommates? Haven't sent my deposit in yet, but I'm going and I was planning on starting to look at apartments soonish.

Have you ever lived in NYC bc NYC real estate doesn't really work like that.Loney M. Setnick wrote:I'm considering being near the L Line in Brooklyn.Generally wrote:I have been spending the last few days looking at places in NYC. Anybody else thinking Brooklyn?

I meant a far as looking right now for August. Generally outside of super lux buildings, this would be too far in advance.Loney M. Setnick wrote:I've lived in NYC. Re: NYU Law Class of 2019
Right, right. I'm just browsing online to get an idea about the prices/neighborhoods. I'm living abroad atm and I want to see the apartments in person, so I won't seriously start apartment hunting until late July/August. How much time do you think I should give myself to find an apartment? Last time it only took me a week, but I thought since I'm a little pickier this time, I might need more than two weeks...ih8makingscreennames wrote: I meant a far as looking right now for August. I found my apt last time I was there in a week. My impression is if it's on the market it's leasing in less than a couple days. The problem comes when you need guarantors, etc. I don't know if you were gonna try and go the sublet/craigslist route or sign a lease yourself.Loney M. Setnick wrote:Right, right. I've been seeing Jersey City-esque prices in Brooklyn.

My reconsideration was a success! Small, but still successful. I signed the electronic form that was in the portal to my award, but where are people finding information for the seating deposits? Wanna make sure I get everything in by the end of the day lol.

Oh god I hate the L train - most unreliable train ever. Plus they're probably going to terminate service on the L from Brooklyn to Manhattan sometime in 2017. I'm from NYC (not sure about NYU yet), but I'd recommend you look for a place in BK on the F/M lines, or further out near the A/C since all of those go to West 4th (a block away from the law school).Loney M. Re: NYU Law Class of 2019
For anyone who is like me and moving across country to NYC and thinking about doing student housing as it is the path of least resistance, a cautionary tale. While riding the elevator in Mercer during ASW, a current student living there told us all "don't live here!"
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
Now there's a charge.
