Re: NYU Law Class of 2019
Forgive me if this has already been asked but where is everyone planning to live? I will be moving in with my SO, her sister and my buddy who all will be working in NYC while I attend NYU. Is living in Weehawken manageable for NYU? I assume ill have to commute regardless of where I go so I would prefer to be somewhere safe for the girls and close for everyone. Thanks!

It's kind of a schlep to get from Weehawken into the city since you'd have to either drive to a Path station or take light rail to the Path, and the late night Path trains are always on the chopping block when NJ talks about budget cuts. They've been talking about eliminating those later trains for years and if they do, and you're on campus studying late, you might get stuck in the city. Sleeping on a bench in Penn Station isn't the comfiest sleep I've ever had haha. If you're committed to NJ (which is an awesome place to live), I'd definitely recommend Jersey City over Weehawken because then you have three Path station options. Hoboken is def more expensive but also more convenient.Eloverro wrote:Forgive me if this has already been asked but where is everyone planning to live? Not necessarily committed to NJ, although I am from north jersey, more committed to a safe place that wont cost my left kidney within a reasonable commute time. I've heard Astoria is a good place to live, but is that area considered safe? Im perfectly fine on my own (Large dude) but my SO and her sister are petite so I wouldnt want them to feel nervous 24/7clurrburr wrote:It's kind of a schlep to get from Weehawken into the city since you'd have to either drive to a Path station or take light rail to the Path, and the late night Path trains are always on the chopping block when NJ talks about budget cuts. I'll second that. Astoria is very safe. Most places in New York that you're likely to be looking at (based on short commute to NYU) are safe.tappatappatappa wrote:Most of Astoria is very safe... Re: NYU Law Class of 2019
Eugh. Anybody have any luck emailing about getting an offer because of deadlines from other schools? I've been emailing since April 5 and I feel like I'm writing to the void. Doesn't help that every single time I call they seem to be having a meeting.

I e-mailed them yesterday and they replied this morning; they said a second round of financial aid packages is supposed to go out at the end of this week.wittywitless wrote:Eugh. Ahh, thank you for this information. Looks like I may end up withdrawing.

+1 to all of this. I also added a little bit about how I'm really interested in NYU because of ____ interests/goals. But I think mentioning the schools without their asking first is a bit much.darlenealderson wrote:The way I did it was not to mention the schools by name but to explain that I'm waiting for FA info from other schools and given the major financial investment of this decision it would only be responsible to make the decision with all of the relevant info in front of me. I did give a number for how many schools I'm waiting on that info from, and should they ask me which I'll tell them, but I think there isn't a reason to say the names in that message imo.clurrburr wrote: +1. Do you think it's a good idea to mention the other schools I'm deciding between or is that crass?

Oh damn that's terrible! I'm shocked that A) they didn't agree to it and B) you got a response so quickly. They haven't responded to me yet, but I guess it's not looking good then...darlenealderson wrote:FYI, just got turned down for the deadline extension.

Re: NYU Law Class of 2019
The reasoning they gave was that there's no more info I need from them specifically, and that they need to know money wise so they can tell other people, which I legitimately understand and honestly don't hold against them. I'm way more frustrated with the schools who I haven't heard from on aid...but I think my decision is pretty much made at this point. Couldn't hurt to ask, but maybe this is meant to be!crescentstars wrote:Oh damn that's terrible! I'm shocked that A) they didn't agree to it and B) you got a response so quickly. Re: NYU Law Class of 2019
Very good point. You're right that they don't have finite resources and do need to free those up from people who won't go. But it's still weird that they grant some extensions and not others - how do they make that distinction?darlenealderson wrote:The reasoning they gave was that there's no more info I need from them specifically, and that they need to know money wise so they can tell other people, which I legitimately understand and honestly don't hold against them. My last ditch aid reconsideration request was also turned down.

Welp, I just got the "additional aid packages are going out on Friday" spiel over the phone. Gonna think about it just a bit more but I think I'm on the verge of withdrawing and going elsewhere.
Really angry at their noncommittal stance. This was my first choice but that just turned me off so much.

Re: NYU Law Class of 2019
I'm happy with the scholarship I got, but I was wondering whether there's a point in approaching them about reconsideration after I've deposited and accepted my package. It seems like there would be some more money to go around from anyone who turned down a scholarship, but I obviously would just be asking for goodwill rather than being able to reference other offers. Is there any merit to trying that?

For those who have heard back from financial aid re negotiations, would you mind sharing how long you were waiting for before hearing back?

Re: NYU Law Class of 2019
Put in a last ditch appeal today. Probably won't get it, they gave me a very nice scholarship with my initial package, and I probably don't deserve more. I just got lucky that someone else topped them. Will probably withdraw if they deny the appeal.
Seriously? What are you waiting for?
