I wasn't aware there was any "dress code." There may be a way most people dress but I do not think there is anything, within reason, that will be that inappropriate. Personally, I was thinking jeans and a polo if I was really feeling like high society. Maybe I'm wrong.RedWhite&Blonde wrote:Including the events on Thursday?herecomesthesun wrote:I talked to a current student and she said business casual.Sherlock1122 wrote:Does anyone have an idea of what dress code will be like at ASW this weekend? Yeah she said it's fairly casual, some people wore jeans, but the vast majority were at least on the more professional side of the business casual spectrum since faculty are still around.Nagster5 wrote:Business Casual throughout is probably the safe bet. I'm going with a button down and nice pair of jeans or, alternatively, this bad boy:

So would jeans and a sweater be too casual?herecomesthesun wrote:Yeah she said it's fairly casual, some people wore jeans, but the vast majority were at least on the more professional side of the business casual spectrum since faculty are still around.Nagster5 wrote:Business Casual throughout is probably the safe bet. My impression was yes, she said black jeans would probably be okayRedWhite&Blonde wrote:So would jeans and a sweater be too casual?herecomesthesun wrote:Yeah she said it's fairly casual, some people wore jeans, but the vast majority were at least on the more professional side of the business casual spectrum since faculty are still around.Nagster5 wrote:Business Casual throughout is probably the safe bet. Does any one know if there's anything approximating a dress code for ASW? Is it mostly a business casual thing? Any different for UVA?

Anyone attending the ASW this weekend that would be interested in splitting the costs of a hotel room? 22 year old guy here (trying to not spend a ton of $$$).

Sooo based on what I've read these past two pages, I have to dress nice at ASW AND there is no chance I will be able convince FA to give me aid? I am really regretting booking/paying for my hotel before awards went out.. I hope that BBQ they are having is hella tight or this was all really a waste of time.

Well, I'm sure they're not going to kick you out if you're wearing jeans. And if it's a waste of time for you, then you might as well be comfortable as you're stuffing your face with BBQ IMO. ^This. Also, how do we schedule individual meetings with financial aid?Navyhornguy wrote:Well, I'm sure they're not going to kick you out if you're wearing jeans. Just out of respect for the school and to show that you're taking it seriously, since you'll be meeting with profs and admins. Also to make a good impression.earthabides wrote:why would you wear business casual to an ASW?

I personally prefer to err on the side of overdressed - I'd much rather be the only person in a button down than the only person in shorts and flip flops. But that's just for me, if you'll be comfortable without dressing up at all, go for it. They're not going to rescind your admission.earthabides wrote:why would you wear business casual to an ASW?

Anyone else flying in from NYC? I wasn't sure I was going to be free with work so I wasn't able to book my flight yet, curious what rates the rest of you have gotten.

I'm taking Amtrak and it was pretty cheap ($136 round trip), though there is only one train each day so you don't have a lot of options on times. Not sure how many tickets are still available.yschaf wrote:Anyone else flying in from NYC? Also taking Amtrak in from NYC. When I booked, there were a good number of trains, but the times weren't great. It came down to either taking a train down Wednesday afternoon after the NYC alumni reception or flying in Thursday morning. Amtrak was cheaper.ChervonaKatya wrote:I'm taking Amtrak and it was pretty cheap ($136 round trip), though there is only one train each day so you don't have a lot of options on times.
