I can verify that. The bedrooms themselves do not have windows, but the living areas in each suite have, from what I saw, enormous windows with tables arranged next to them for studying. There are also some very well-lit common study areas in the Munger commons. However, if you're the kind of person that needs a window in your room, it might prove to be a deal-breaker.tappatappatappa wrote:Someone told me that some of the bedrooms in Munger don't have windows...? That's the same impression that I got. However, the LC just struck me as a little bit juvenile - more akin to an undergraduate dorm that actual graduate housing. I am only one year out of undergrad, but the thought of not having the ability to cook my own meals and, more than that, being disincentivized from doing anything other than eating in the LC Dining area because of the mandatory meal plan is awful.jewkidontheblock wrote:Heard the same thing. My thought process is that LC is mostly a 1L thing, while Munger will always be there for 2L and 3L.tappatappatappa wrote:Someone told me that some of the bedrooms in Munger don't have windows...? The other big concern for me is that the laundry area - which includes 6 washers and 6 dryers for the entire LC - is way overburdened and seems generally to be a huge pain in the ass.

Current senior at Umich undergrad, I found an apt close to the law school. If anyone has questions regarding housing outside of the LC or Munger I can try to answer them!

I was in the same place as you. Actually sent in my application to Munger and was fully planning on living there before preview. After talking to students at Preview I sent in my lawyers club app. While you definitely won't be a social outcast at Munger, quite a few upper years emphasised the community aspect of living in the LC. Im saying this as someone who likes the style of Munger wayyyyyy wayy more. Despite the fact that lawyers club is significantly more expensive for less amenities and meals that I'd rather cook myself, I still think I'd regret not living in the Lawyers club for 1l more than I'd regret not living at Munger.GFox345 wrote:I can verify that. I actually just toured munger this week and the bedrooms don't have windows and they are much smaller than I was led to believe... That said I'll probs still be choosing munger over other off campus options. The amenities and facilities are really great

But what is there to regret? If you're still in a tight-nit section groups and spending almost all of your time in the library, what is the real difference? I guess the calculus is different for everyone, but I will be stressed out if I can't cook my own meals and do my laundry when I want to. But that's just me.jnwa wrote:I was in the same place as you. Yeah, I have bad food allergies and need to be able to cook for myself. I was limited to a food plan in undergrad, and while I know the food there's better than the typical undergrad kitchen, I just need that ability.GFox345 wrote:But what is there to regret? I never considered LC, but from that one meal we ate there, I was thoroughly underwhelmed by the food served. The couple of 1Ls I ate with also were pretty down on the food. That said, it's very convenient, and I'd be lying if I said I won't be eating ramen sometimes on my own.herecomesthesun wrote:Yeah, I have bad food allergies and need to be able to cook for myself. Ditto on the outcast point. Also might be something to be said for meeting people outside your section. At the end of the day im a shitty cook anyways. I just like having an oven for making chicken fingers but oh well. As long as they dont portion control me in the LC ill be alright. Also Munger is always there for 2 and 3l. LC seems like a 1L thing. If not being able to cook and do laundry stresses you out(it doesnt for me) and you dont care about the meeting people outside your section thing, then by all means Munger is the right choice. Ill come by and play NBA 2k16 on your 60 inch TV whenever i have the chance.GFox345 wrote:

Counterpoint: I didn't live in the LC and never felt like an outcast. Munger is two minutes away on foot, so you're very close to the law school. And you'll get to interact with non-law graduate students, for which you might well be thankful around exam time. Plus, even living in the LC doesn't guarantee extensive social interaction if your neighbors have a bit of the hermit in them.

Happy to say that I'm checking in!! Just got my scholarship (which was quite generous, considering I didn't have anything close to a competing offer), and I'm definitely going.
Can't wait to meet all of you all in the fall!

Also, I must ask.. Is anyone planning on getting student tickets for the hockey team? Any other hockey fans out there??
I'm fully aware that I will probably buy them and get busy and go to one game.. But I've been hockey deprived living in Cincinnati and I need that rush back in my life.

Has Michigan released financial aid grants yet?
They offered me a $45,000 merit based award a few weeks ago, and I would like to see my need-based aid to see if it's time for me to begin negotiating with other schools.
