"I plan to enroll at NYU School of Law in Fall 2016. I have no commitment to attend another law school, have not deferred enrollment at another law school, will not apply to another law school, have withdrawn from other law schools to which I was admitted, and will not request to be reinstated at any law school from which I have withdrawn.
I have reviewed the information about the Law School's laptop requirement and I agree to abide by its terms. I understand that all students, whether in the JD or Graduate Division, enrolled in or registered for any course at New York University School of Law are required to have, for exams and other purposes, a laptop with wireless Internet capability (one that meets the minimum specifications as described on our Website). Every student is required to type his or her exams on a computer, and handwriting will not be permitted on exams."
So their language is still pretty damn binding with regards to withdrawing from other schools. It just isn't binding you to actually enroll at NYU. I read it as, you can't change your mind and go to Harvard, but you can change your mind and not go to law school this year. Then again, I haven't taken contracts yet, so that could be entirely wrong.
If you got a scholarship offer, accepting that may be somewhat more binding, since you're now tying up funds that could be given to someone else.

Re: NYU Law Class of 2019
Reading that, it sounds like it specifically doesn't pick up waitlists, either (which would make sense). If you're waiting on a waitlist, you have no commitment to attend anywhere else, have not deferred enrollment, and are not apply to another one; but it's still not a school to which you were admitted from which you need to withdrawn.cavalier1138 wrote:Here it is (incidentally, you can view this yourself through the admitted students site without actually signing it):Applesauce11 wrote:Can anyone who's made a deposit post the wording on the agreement? Just my two cents, don't rely on my advice.

I'm asking for one today, but it'd be good to hear from someone else who has already heard back.

Re: NYU Law Class of 2019
Hey all,
I have another dumb question. My scholarship deadline is April 21st. Does that mean anytime on April 21st, or do I need to accept/decline before that date? I'm asking because the general deadline says on or before May 2nd, but the scholarship deadline just says by April 21st.
Thanks!

I'd call the office about that one, because it's a fairly important distinction to make.Applesauce11 wrote:Hey all,

IMO if a deadline is said to be a given date (n) it means the deadline is that actual date, not (n-1). Would be pretty weird if a deadline date was supposed to be taken to mean the day before the date they tell you.Applesauce11 wrote:Hey all,

Of course if a school says (like Duke) that your deposit must be received by a certain date and you plan to mail your deposit, things can be different

Yeah I had assumed that it meant anytime on the 21st until I saw Duke's wording and then got confused. But I just checked with them and it's anytime before 12am EST on 4/21.EnderWiggin wrote:IMO if a deadline is said to be a given date (n) it means the deadline is that actual date, not (n-1). Their exact wording was: "You have until midnight (Eastern Standard Time) on April 21, 2016". I read that as anytime on the 21st.

Finally got the RTK ding. They were super nice about it and apologized for the process taking so long. I had already been expecting it but I was bummed nonetheless.

+1. Do you think it's a good idea to mention the other schools I'm deciding between or is that crass?crescentstars wrote:+1darlenealderson wrote:Has anyone asked for a deposit deadline extension?

The way I did it was not to mention the schools by name but to explain that I'm waiting for FA info from other schools and given the major financial investment of this decision it would only be responsible to make the decision with all of the relevant info in front of me. I did give a number for how many schools I'm waiting on that info from, and should they ask me which I'll tell them, but I think there isn't a reason to say the names in that message imo.clurrburr wrote: +1. Re: NYU Law Class of 2019
There's no reason not to ask. I used offers from other schools with their specific letters and did a comparison of COA and it worked for me. Given that you're saying NYU is your top choice, even if only slightly, make that clear to admissions. They don't want to extend offers to people who won't take advantage of them, so make it clear that there's a serious chance you might. Still, I would say if your Boalt offer is super generous, you can't necessarily expect them to match or even come near that offer (they still haven't reached the halfway mark on my other t14 offers), but if you think any money could affect your decision, do it. Don't settle without getting all the info you can.dizzystpizzy wrote:Question for the troops-- my request for reconsideration for merit aid was turned down without NYU knowing any specifics of my other offers. NYU is my first choice (slightly) but I do really need some help to attend. Is it unreasonable to go back to them with specifics on my other offers (I think a really generous one from Boalt will be likely to move them given my PI focus) and lay down an ultimatum? Would still be happy at Boalt if they down me down. Or would I just be pissing in the wind?

I asked about a deposit/enrollment extension since I haven't heard from Boalt yet, and they said no. Thought I'd try. Now to decide in three days if going to New York will be worth all the loans.
